Screw caution...

My instincts went WAY more oddball than all y'all: Dread Zeppelin, ApocalypticA, or Hayseed Dixie. Or maybe Diamanda Galas with King Diamond?

No way is it Apocalyptica. They're way too big for the fest. I know in Chicago at least the last time I saw them, they sold out the HOB.

I know they have been mentioned a few times in this thread - but what about Borknagar?

A) I believe they fit the oddball category
B) They have a rather large discography to choose from which I think merits them a higher slot
C) Good mix of growly and clean (IMO)
D) Progressive-ish
E) Haven't been in the states for 10 or so years now - assuming they don't play any US shows in the coming year

At least that's my hope it's them. :)

Could it be James Labrie? New CD coming out, Glenn just posted a pic with him. Maybe the trip to Chicago wasn't just to see the Maiden show. Labrie has name recognition, but his solo stuff isn't really prog or power. Half the PP crowd would hate it too! :loco:
I would LOVE that! I really liked his solo disk (not Mullmuzzler so much) and with him and Sfogli completing another disk, it would be pretty awesome!

+10 for Katatonia!!

* My Dying Bride
* Tiamat
* Samael
* Anathema
* Ihsahn
* Finntroll
* Volbeat
* Barren Earth
* Voivod
* Primordial

All bands mentioned thus far in this thread that I'd support wholeheartedly. Would love any of these.

Others that I'd love, and would be off the beaten path of ProgPower USA:

* Borknagar
* Arcturus
* Candlemass
* UneXpect
* Katatonia
* Korpiklaani
* Battlelore
* Ulver (expensive, likely)
* Paradise Lost
* Novembre (probably not a high-slot)

You think people would pay $120 for a ticket just to see Opeth when they can wait 6 months and catch them on a headlining tour for $20?
Besides, Opeth really isn't much of an oddball. They are quite popular and have been around for a while. However, I do think that they would attract people since they do fairly well on their own. Personally, I'm not a fan.

Oh yeah, and I would pay extra to see a band I really liked at ProgPower. The venue is absolutely one of my favorites in terms of layout and sound quality.

Absolutely. I'd think it unlikely, especially as a headliner (the ol' "power-metal puts asses in seats" argument), but I'd reallly love to see them someday.

Don't honestly know anything about them. I thought they were just your run of the mill death/black metal band. Maybe I have some exploring to do. I'm guessing though that this oddball is at the 5th slot.
