Tickets for their New Years Eve Show in Las Vegas are (were its now sold out) 300 bucks and 500 bucks. What a way to tell your fans. Hey bend over, Lars is gonna fuck you good and hard AGAIn.

Fuck them.

They charged that much because there were so few of them. Charging a high price ensures they go to the people value them the most, thus promoting economic efficiency. Apparently a thousand-some people really believe it is worth it to see Metallica in such a small place. Good for them.

They charge that much because they are only in it for the $$$$$. Thus insuring only the wealthy, and not the true Metallica fans can go, Charging such a high price insures that Lars and Co. can each get brand new custom made Ferreries. Its a fucken insult to the fans to charge that much. If you think it is fine for a band to charge its fans 500 bucks per ticket, more power to you. If Metallica were to become the victims of a Buddy Holly/Big Bopper/Lynyrd Skynyrd/Panye Stewart type of mishap, I for one would not be sad. I used to be a fan of theirs. Now they are a joke.

With it being a club show, I have no qualms with them charging that much. It's like Delpi said, only the people who really want to go will pay that kinda $$$$$$. I really wish KISS would go back to clubs, I'd pay $1000 to see KISS in a 1,000 seat theatre.

They played a club show in Vegas this spring, and tix were about that price. They need to do it across the country. I've seen KISS acoustic, outdoors, indoors, with make-up, with no make-up, but never ever in a club. It would be incredible, and it would complete my KISS fanboy fantasy.

Oh yeah, I forgot, anyone who will pay $300 to see Metallica is not a "true" fan. Only those who won't pay it are.

In case you didn't notice, Metallica generally sells out crowds of over 20,000. It would make sense if they are playing a venue 1/20th that size that ticket prices are high. It does something to reduce the quantity of tickets
demanded. There's really no point in them playing a club if they're not going to raise the price more.

I agree Metallica's last few albums have been pathetic. But it looks like people still want to see them play live, and I respect that. Who gives a shit if they do it for money? I only go to work for money. Ever hear of the phrase "a business, not a charity." It's brilliant. Or perhaps you think that since they're so wealthy they should just play every show for free.

I'm glad we can agree on something. And since they sold out the club, apparently others agree. They probably could have charged even more and still sold out.

And to think I agreed on something with a right winged conservative asshole. I need to get my Al Franken, Micheal Moore, and Bill Maher books out and study.

Really on this issue, I think when a "huge" band plays a club they need to charge out the ass to ensure that only the fans who really want to go get in. I'd rather max out my charge card KNOWING that I will get a ticket, than try and be one of the 1,000 people who is lucky enough to snag a $30 ticket, can you imagine how difficult it would be to get a ticket if they weren't expensive.

I saw the Smashing Pumpkins at a club in 96. This was in their heyday too. I knew a bartender. It's the equivalent of seeing Bud E. Love Bomb in the mid eighties.

You are so off base. You have oviousally never been to Las Vegas on New Years Eve, I wont even bother to explain why. I saw the RHCP at the same club last NYE and it was 100 and 200 for a ticket. I can guarentee that a majority (about half, possibly a 1/3) of the tickets are reserved for the hotel/casinos to give to the high rollers as a perk for gambeling 500+ bucks a hand at blackjack
I guess there are tonnes of Metallica fans that fit in that catagory. I never said it wasnt a business, thats why I went to school for 6 years to get a masters degree, so I dont have to scrimp and save for stuff, and so I can buy big ticket items without worrying. I paid 1000 (actually 2x 1000) to see Kiss in San Diego this Oct. But for that 1000 per ticket I get 2nd row center seats, a backstage pass, to hang with Kiss after, a couple of shirts, and a bunch of other swag. So I understand the true fan thing. Ive also seen Metallica in small clubs, I saw them at the Filmore this year, at the MTV Icon show, with the SF symphony, and did they charge 500 for a ticket NO. I would also pay a huge amount of $$$ to see Danzig re-unite with Jerry and Doyle for a Misfits reunion. I would even pay 1000 to see a one night only show of that. Go to Vegas on New Years Eve, see how things work there, then we can talk.

AlexStomp! Didn´t the Pumpkins play a series of gigs around the states for really low prices? I remember Corgan saying something about "for the true SP-fans". I never liked the Pumpkins but they treated their fans well from what I´ve herad.

o_O And your point is? If Justin is so off base, then please tell us what the alternative is here? Corporate fucks get tix to anything, anywhere, anyhow.

The Pumpkins were GREAT to their fans. It really wasn't uncommon to see Billy & the boys playing at The Metro under an assumed name on a Saturday night for $5.

Not to mention they're the band who gave away their last (and one of their best) CD for free just to piss off the corporate types.
