You are so off base. You have oviousally never been to Las Vegas on New Years Eve, I wont even bother to explain why. I saw the RHCP at the same club last NYE and it was 100 and 200 for a ticket. I can guarentee that a majority (about half, possibly a 1/3) of the tickets are reserved for the hotel/casinos to give to the high rollers as a perk for gambeling 500+ bucks a hand at blackjack
I guess there are tonnes of Metallica fans that fit in that catagory. I never said it wasnt a business, thats why I went to school for 6 years to get a masters degree, so I dont have to scrimp and save for stuff, and so I can buy big ticket items without worrying. I paid 1000 (actually 2x 1000) to see Kiss in San Diego this Oct. But for that 1000 per ticket I get 2nd row center seats, a backstage pass, to hang with Kiss after, a couple of shirts, and a bunch of other swag. So I understand the true fan thing. Ive also seen Metallica in small clubs, I saw them at the Filmore this year, at the MTV Icon show, with the SF symphony, and did they charge 500 for a ticket NO. I would also pay a huge amount of $$$ to see Danzig re-unite with Jerry and Doyle for a Misfits reunion. I would even pay 1000 to see a one night only show of that. Go to Vegas on New Years Eve, see how things work there, then we can talk.
I'm with Ty. What's your point?
I've never been to Las Vegas on New Years because I don't care to spend tons and tons of money on New Years. I don't need to go to Las Vegas to understand that Metallica's management used the simple queuing model from my public finance class. Raise the price, lower the lines. It's up to each individual to decide how much they are willing to pay for a Metallica concert. For me, it would be about $25.
You just said Metallica didn't charge a ton for those other shows, so maybe they're not ALL about the money all the time (not that I would give a shit if they were). It's rather pathetic that you devote so much time to criticizing the band yet you still go to see them. Are you going to this show?

BTW, since when was half or 1/3 a "majority"?

And to think I agreed on something with a right winged conservative asshole. I need to get my Al Franken, Micheal Moore, and Bill Maher books out and study.

Really on this issue, I think when a "huge" band plays a club they need to charge out the ass to ensure that only the fans who really want to go get in. I'd rather max out my charge card KNOWING that I will get a ticket, than try and be one of the 1,000 people who is lucky enough to snag a $30 ticket, can you imagine how difficult it would be to get a ticket if they weren't expensive.
Charging high prices also eliminates most of the deadweight loss of waiting in line and dealing with all that shit.

Also, if it's not against the law to resell tickets, there's a good chance people would scalp tickets.

Man I thought I was the only right wing conservative asshole on the board...lets go right wing assholes. UNITE! Let our voices be heard!

I'm actually a libertarian asshole but since Ty enjoys calling me a right wing asshole I will just let him. Back to reading my Ayn Rand and Milton Friedman...

Yeah, when I do those little internet tests that gauage your views I always end up in the Libertarian group. I am with the republicans on business and defense that kinda thing but abortion and drugs and social issues I'm with the Libertarians.

They charge that much because they are only in it for the $$$$$. Thus insuring only the wealthy, and not the true Metallica fans can go, Charging such a high price insures that Lars and Co. can each get brand new custom made Ferreries. Its a fucken insult to the fans to charge that much. If you think it is fine for a band to charge its fans 500 bucks per ticket, more power to you. If Metallica were to become the victims of a Buddy Holly/Big Bopper/Lynyrd Skynyrd/Panye Stewart type of mishap, I for one would not be sad. I used to be a fan of theirs. Now they are a joke.
They did have that kind of mishap, but with a bus.

Good reference to Payne Stewart though... I can't believe its been almost four years since he died.

I agree with Justin and Ty... it's a matter of textbook economics.

AlexStomp! Didn´t the Pumpkins play a series of gigs around the states for really low prices? I remember Corgan saying something about "for the true SP-fans". I never liked the Pumpkins but they treated their fans well from what I´ve herad.
I have no idea about this. I liked two of their albums, Siamese and the one after that one I think the double LP. I'm not a huge fan of the pumpkins but I thought everything after that sucked. They had a great live set. They should reunite

Don't ever go to New Year's show. They always suck. Actually, New Year's is such an over rated "holiday". Dress up, go out, spend shitloads of money and risk getting nabbed at a police traffic stop.

glad I've seen Tallica in there prime, last show 89!Ive seen a lot of theire live show on MTV lately and I think they are boring as hell, Trax is 10 times better a live band, too bad tallic sell them out 10.000.000 to a lousy 50.000 cd's

shit- is it not possible to go through a whole day without reading something about metallica somewhere on the net??? i mean these guys make it onto every single messageboard i visit. soon lars will want money for this...LOL

I understand the econmics of higher prices at smaller places. But come on get real Metallica drop the price to $100 and call it a day. What a bunch of crap. My money goes to my family now. There's no way I'd pay $300 to not here Kirk Hammett play a solo in a song. Trash can lid productions.

Everything they did after Mellon Collie DID suck balls so bad...except the Untitled song (unreleased, on that best of cd). Guess they shall reunite, I saw one show back in 1997 at it was surprisingly so metal!

OH Bitch, Bitch, Bitch.

You know, for people who seem to hate Metallica so much, you guys sure have a hard time not talking about them.

And yes, 300-500$ is overpriced in my opinion.
