Sennheiser MD421 Vs MD421 II

Hey,

Am thinking of picking up a new mic and these have got my attention.
It will be getting used pretty much for guitar tracks only.
Has anyone used both of these??
What where your thoughts on them.
Supposedly the original was better but I have no idea so I though I would ask

you want the Sennheiser 421 U5 the one made in germany......all the rest arnt that good

Good luck finding the old ones. BTW, I use the newer ones (II) and they sound great.

I had both. I sold the older model, it sounded kinda muffled when compared to the 421II model.

I use the older ones more often but I've never had a problem w/ the II's. Due to the clips these seem to hit the floor alot so I would be careful when buying used (they are very tough mics tho).

I agree with egan about them falling on account of the clips. I've seen more than one of them get cracked instantly upon falling from the mic stand (usually because someone inadvertently pushed the release).

I have one from the 60's. Sounds great and the METAL clip works great. However I did have to find a weird adapter so it fits on American mic stands, also a tuchel to XLR adapter.
