Hehe... no... you like plenty of power metal too... only whenever you like a power metal band, you just reclassify them as prog metal.

BTW, you are going to be at ProgPower this year, right? Skipping it again is unacceptable!

Just curious, but have you heard the brand new one yet (Seasons of Tragedy)? Well, honestly if you don't like Uncreation you probably won't think much of SoT... I guess I'm just looking for an opening to say that it's seriously kicking my ass right now , "Shell Shock" in particular.

I still don't get it. On paper, Benedictum is something I should definitely be into. But after hearing every track from Uncreation it somehow just leaves me completely flat. Even their Black Sabbath cover somehow doesn't do much for me. I suppose I should give their new one a try at some point, at least through some sound files or samples or something. Realistically though, I already have a huge backlog of stuff to listen to, so I can't imagine when I'd get around to it. I'm sure you'll be cranking some of this on Seismic though, so I should at least get to hear a little, heh.

The crowd where? This forum? Hardly. Prog fans easily outnumber Power Metal fans, and many have no tolerance for extreme vox.

Actually, it's always seemed to me that the power metal fans on here are either more numerous or 'louder' than progmetal fans. But, this is a diverse forum, and I've found it to be one of THE best places to discuss metal (and other things) on the planet.

As Glenn pointed out, at the fest itself, powermetallers are far more numerous.

Depends on what you qualify prog. From what I have seen mentioned here, it's mostly power.

Depends on what you qualify Power. Power Metal is the most misused term to describe genres in all of Metal. Somehow bands that are actually Melodic Metal, Traditional Metal, or Hard Rock get lumped into the Power Metal catagory.

In order for Power Metal to get much respect here they mostly have to be either already well established or have graced the stage at PPUSA. It's almost laughable how 'good' a band becomes after they've been on the roster, even though they were mostly ignored or even ridiculed when mentioned or suggested previously.

Even some of the bigger names in Power Metal are frequently scoffed at in this forum, although the larger portion of attendees at the show would go nuts watching them.

As Glenn also pointed out this forum is opposite in make up from the attendees. It's unlike you to deselect relevent data like that. Prog fans have always been more numerous in this forum. However, it has been evening out a bit more lately. Some of the old Prog fans like Ice Queen and Barkin' Pumkin have left. Others like Ascension, Angrafan and AngraRULES are still round but don't post as much as they used to. At the same time there are more Power fans coming in.

It's also true that a fair number of Power metal bands get discussed here. However, when a Prog band is suggested, recommended, or introduced the feedback is most often either positive or merely quiet. Conversely if a Power Metal band is suggested there is an infinitely higher probability of negative or derogatory reponses.

In fact other than Pain Of Salvation I can't think of any Prog bands that get any great degree of deprecation here. Not so with DragonForce, Manowar, Powerquest, Running Wild, Grave Digger, Hammerfall, and Kaledon just to name a few off the top of my head.

I also know forum members in person who have told me that they feel, if not exactly intimidated, at least uncomfortable at the possibility of flamming for posting negative feedback on popular Prog bands on this forum.

So I emailed Darkwater. Their debut cd is amazing. Although anyone who checks them out should skip the somewhat dull radio edit of Again (the full version is much better, but still the weakest track on the cd IMO) and listen to Tallest Tree (on their myspace page).

It would also be great to see Suspyre or Thought Chamber (although I don't know if they perform).

Shouldn't SERENITY be replaced with a band of similar style? I didn't hear any prog fans complaining about Friday and Saturday. But now, since SERENITY pulled out and HELLOWEEN and GAMMA RAY are playing Thursday, we need another prog band? Let's be fair here. It seems some of the prog fans only care about themselves.

There is nothing more that I'd like since I've been a PP supporter since PP1 and a fairly vocal member of this forum. I, as well as the rest of the band, would consider it a HUGE honor to be part of this! I do believe that Matt submitted us for consideration, so I do have my fingers crossed.

+1 for replacing the slot with a prog band
+1 for Wolverine or Thought Chamber (should we not get the slot).

I'm kinda surprised that no one has mentioned Sieges Even (or did I miss it?). I'm really digging their latest!
