I just found out about Seventh Wonder 3 days ago, so I'm new to the band and new to the forums, but they are exactly the sort of music I've been looking for. Exactly my style.

I've been trying to find out more information about the band members, like profiles, but they don't have anything on the website (which is under construction?), and wikipedia isn't very extensive, either. Anyone know of bios or history about the band?

Thanks ^^

First of all: welcome to the forum, UnfetteredNomad!

It's not very extensive indeed but you'll have a nice idea how it all started (I assume you already saw this one?): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventh_Wonder

Of course, there's a little to be found from each member as well. Maybe you already checked out some things by yourself: if not, here are some links and some topic-related quotes from the guys:

"...Well my biggest influence would have to be Jorn Lande! Ever since I laid hands on The Beyond Twilight album "The Devils hall of fame" I have been under his spell! Even though I may not sound like him much, I am sure that if you dig deep into my vocal style you will find a few familiar things Before I got into hard rock and metal music, musicans like Michael Jackson, bands like Queen and stuff like the soundtrack to "The Phantom of the Opera" were frequently spinning in my player.
At about 18 I started listening more to Sonata Arctica and later on I overdosed Dream Theaters "Scenes from a memory"...
During the last couple of years I would have to say that I consider Symphony X and ACT my favorite bands. Russell Allen is one of the greatest and most diverse singers on this planet and Jerry who composes all the music for ACT is such a musical genius!
Another thing that changed my view on music was joining SW. Meeting all these great musicians with different musical backgrounds introducing me to a lot of great stuff!
I never tried to change my voice to sound like anyone else, but if you mix all the above mentioned infuences I think you will get a pretty good idea of why I compose, sing and express myself the way I do!

Marcel Jacob, who died July 2009, was a big influence for Andreas - Marcel was his friend and mentor at the same time. "Like I said, he was my friend, but perhaps more important to the rest of the world he was and incredible song writer and in my mind the greatest bass player who has ever walked the earth".

Another thing you need to know is that Andreas actually has no talent at all playing the bass ;): "If you have no talent (=me) you just practise like crazy for ten years -then you can pretend to be a prog musician too, just like I did"!

"I started to play guitar when I was around 8 years old after seeing my brother, who was trying to play some silly swedish popsong on his guitar and I remember that I said: Hey I can do that better! (of course I didn´t know anything aboute playing guitar at all) but after a couple of days I had learned that song. So in the biginning I think I played only 1 hour/day but after a couple of years when I descovered people like Yngwie, Vai, Gilbert I realised that you have to play much more than 1hour/day! And I did! And still do..
I have to say that my biggest insperation is Nuno Bettencourt. He is playing rythem guitar like no one else!
About solos I think a good melodie is most important thing! If you can do a combo between a great melodie and some tricky stuff then you are a winner in my eyes (sorry ears:).

My equipment is diffrent comparing studio and live. In the studio I play through my Dual Rectifier without any effects at all and live I have a Line 6 Pod X3 Live. Very easy! I like when it´s simple:)"

=Andreas Söderin ('Kyrt' is his nickname) - it's worth checking out his nice little bio on this page.

New drummer Stefan Norgren (announced yesterday) has a Myspace site as well:

Hope this could help a bit!!
It's great that you've discovered the best band in the world :D, make sure to drop in here from time to time!

Thanks for all of this information!

I find the influences to be very fascinating. I think there is a tendency for anyone to play "Progressive Metal" to be labeled as a Dream Theater clone. Sure Dream Theater played a role, but as we see here, the influences and inspiration go well beyond that.

I was always a big Extreme guy, so the Nuno influence was intriguing.

Are there any classical music influences for this group?
