SH 13 Dimebucker

From what i hear its a clone of the Bill Lawrence L500 XL or L500 Poth pickups were super hott, but i dont think as hott as an 81.

I used the Lawrences for a while (yes i was a dime clone for years :P )and i liked them alot. For some reason though when i started playing jems i just never used em again.

Yeah I got two Bill Lawrence L500XL on my RR1, and they both kick some serious ass!
And yes they're not as hot as an 81, but with lawrence you got a warmer tone compared to 81, kind of "vintage with edge" sound I may say.
Years ago Jackson on the american line put those pickup as a stock, mine from 93 has them, so guys in children of bodom do (maybe "did", because at the moment they switched to esp).
I remember pics of the old guitarrist an laio with those jackson's with lawrence.

No alexi's jacksons had a jackson j50bc pickup that was originally made for scott ian, and the production jackson rr/ll had a seymour duncan i believe.

But was it like a bill lawrence right? same shape, same "blade style" magnets?
Maybe I'm wrong but I had pics of the fat guy on children of bodom having pickups "a la" bill lawrence, Alexi as well.
Years ago jackson used to put bill lawrence pickups on guitars, I have the certificate of my Jackson that states this, mine was a brand new of the '93 production.

I believe Kazrog said that it indeed was a high output pickup... but is also very very noisy.

Nothing that good noise reduction can't fix, but I found the Dimebucker to really push the limits of my NS-2 pedal while going through my ex-guitarist's Mesa Dual Rectifier.

My opinion may not be the most reliable, however, as the guitar in question that my ex-guitarist and I tested with was an ugly PRS-style 80s Ibanez body (hefty block of mahogany) that had sat in a garage for 15 years, and in 2004 was re-necked and affectionately named "the plank." With the Dimebucker, it sounded very thick and full, but feedback was difficult to avoid.

EMGs get a clearer, brighter, less noisy tone, and I wouldn't waste my time putting a Dimebucker in my guitar personally. Then again, I'm not big on any passive pickups these days. Dime's entire rig was pretty much backwards-ass compared to how most of us here choose to do things, yet he still sounded amazing, which I think is more a testament to his greatness as a player than anything else.

That's strange as both Alexi and Ale had the 80's covered jackson pickups with the active electronics until Alexi's jacksons were stolen in 2003, then when he got endorsed by ESP Ale moved as well and they both used passive emg's. I dont know about Ale, but alexi never used any pickups bar the jackson j50bc, except his first guitar which was ibanez, do you know what guitar it was? Alexi has always played randy rhoads v's apart from on something wild, as mentioned above, and Ale always played soloists, again apart from on something wild, where he used ibanez as well. Could you possibly post the pictures up somewhere for me to see?

Yeah it was a soloist, ale played that with lighting.

but this one is with the active electronics from the 80s (first 90s) era of jackson, you can see the jackson logo
I think it was an old metal hammer.

edit: "I think it was an old metal hammer" where I've seen the jackson with bill lawrence

how the hell comes my experience with amps and pickups differs so much from what everyone here seems to have experienced???

I have a dimebucker in one of my guitars and I have NO problems with it being noisy! no feedback-problems at all!!

and I never thought it sounded thin or weak, too... it actually sounds very clear and has a tight, pretty heavy low-end (from what I have experienced)
Its not as hot as a lot of people seem to think though, it even sounds pretty good clean (its not really designed for clean-playing of course)

I was planning on using a Dimebucker on my 1998 Dime 333, korean made. I bought it in a pawnshop for 300 mila lire (about 150 dollars at the time) and I used for years until I decided the Floyd Rose licensed bridge was THE enemy.

Now I resurfaced it from my garage and I would like to upgrade it in the pick up department and bridge. Since I have already retrofitted all my other guitars with EMGs I was planning something different for the dime.

I'm strongly going for a Dimebucker. In the bridge.

The guitar body makes a big difference, I'm sure.

Dude ... look around for some Lawrence L500's They seriously rock. Dime used them when his tone was GOD !!!! (i.e.) Cowboys & Vulgar.

As someone mentioned his rig was toally backward ass ...lol

Passive Pickups, Solid State Head, Furman Parametric EQ ....lol I think at one point he used a BBE too ....lol

I do have to say back in the early 90s i was a dime fanatic and copied his entire rig minus the dean (used kramer 500ST) and i couldnt even get close to his tone. It was definitely all in the hands and technique.

There is a clip I recorded with a friend's Jackson SL-1 Soloist with a Dimebucker in the bridge. Amp was an Engl Blackmore with a VHT 412 cab, miced with a Sennheiser E609.

EDIT: Tuning was C G C F A D

Odd timing (in the accents to the main one note riff) but I like the sound.

I need a good passive guitar so if I'm not finding a Bill Lawrence I think I'll go for the Dimebucker anyway.

Maybe I'll test even a Seymour JB, I know that Mike Amott uses one.

Yeah, the timing sucks, I didn't have headphones when I recorded that so I couldn't even hear what I was recording for the 2nd track. The JB is my favorite pickup for low tunings, like C and B. I have one in my all mahogany Explorer and it just kills.
