Hi all !

I'm mixing a black metal band, who ask me to get a similar snare to the Shining's Halmstad snare...
I was wondering if anyone had an idea to get near that one's sound ?
Think that the natural snare sound I have in the tracks is really far from the Shining's one. So, I've tried some stuff, but with no real good result, that's why I ask that here...

Thanks guys !

Try using a transient designer plug-in to increase the attack and reduce the sustain(or use a gate).
I don't know any close samples, have you tried Mr. Andy Sneap snare samples? Try cutting at 500hz.

I would say cut the mids and boost the shit out of 200hz and 8khz before going into a compressor with a pretty high ratio. Maybe parallel compress hipassed snare to get more snap or do the Kurt Ballou trick with the gate that lets through just the several ms of attack and mix that in.

I've noticed that people want imitated snare mostly fell, if you have snare tuned at same frequency.
It sound bit close to Sneap snare, although I haven't heard it for ages.
