I can't decide myself whether to bother, i'm 24 and want to want to go if you know what i mean but I can't. Referring to that AFDTE song 'Barriers' it's kind of like that, it's like there is a barrier stopping me from wanting to to go. Something tells me it's better now to just get a job somewhere like rather than do all that shit now. :D

it depends. like do you really want to do the effort for going 5 (?) more years to school now?

about 3 years, it's all that sitting in classrooms shit, i mean i always hated it, yet it seems like the only way to get a decent job, or at least one you really want to do.

perhaps it's different from country to country, but like here most peeps i know just continue studying as there are no jobs available anyway.

but what barriers are there for you? i mean when i was 18 i was in university but i couldn't open a single book, blocked. then i switched to a polytechnic and slowly it went much better. as long you take something with a considerable amount of interesting stuff to study... you must be able to do it :)

yeah it's the easiest way perhaps, unless you're anyway very talented at something. though it depends what you study at university i guess... like someone who picks history in belgium, ends mostly up as a teacher.
but are classrooms really needed, i mean there's things like open university and all?

for me it's just having no money for 3 years, it's if it's the right thing and if i'd get a job at the end of it. it's just the whole sitting there day after day, presentations, exams, all that. Yet I like the idea of what could come after the degree

i'm 24 and i started uni a year ago. quit my previous job and all, to get a decent grade and maybe later on a more interesting and better paid job.
and all i can say right now is that i hate it. i hate sitting in my room learning stuff. i hate working half a year until you finally get some feedback in the form of exams. i hate it not to create something useful.
right now i am in a similar mess like you, evaluating if i should carry on or discontinue and get back to my old job...

There are several trade schools and institutes (with 2 year programs) that will offer something 'hands on' so it wouldn't be just sitting in class, lectures and papers...just make sure whatever you get into you know what kind of job you will have (after you graduate) some of these schools place in jobs.

If I wasn't doing the university thing myself (i'm a senior) I would definetly go for something like web page design, multimedia design...it's stuff that's practical too

good luck

and you don't want to go working and studying at the same time, right?

I think you should go to the university.
Of course it would be painful for a few years, but believe me. I've got friends of mine who went to work without studies, and after a few years they realized that they had to study to have a decent carrier, so they went back to university while continuing to work. It is even more painful: working all day and going to the classroom at night...

i'm lucky cos i live with parents so i saved money too for 5 years so i'd be ok maybe even not working, wouldn't need to full time. But I just think to myself that it could be better just getting promotion in some big company locally.
You know I even spoke to a former teacher from college who thought it best to not go to uni and to get a local job in a big company. I guess I'm just scared too, that's the main thing if being honest.. lol

well i'm not sure about the job thing, i thought about doing a media technology degree to try and get a job somewhere like the bbc and sky, tv companies here, but don't know if it's just so unlikely it's not worth it

anyway, despite of what i think of it, you should try it nevertheless, or else you will find yourself in the midlife-crisis around 40, and you ask yourself why you didn't even try...

If you just want to go to the university in order to get a good job afterwards you shouldn't, it's a waste of time if you're not interested in what you're studying.

well i wouldnt like to do university, anything. seen from the practical part of the story. like when you go studying now youll need lots of money right? and i guess your parents wont pay yer studies now is it? so when you ever gained yer money back youll be around 40 or sth...
cause now i like my life.im young and i want to do funny things. and that cost money. so ill never consider going back to school again.
