Should I stop working with this guy?

Recently got offered a job to help some dude record his 4 song EP. He had already had these demo drum tracks that he brought in, so we got him all set up and then as we're going to get his tone, I notice his sound is so flat and dead sounding. He then tells me that he hasn't changed his strings in over a year and that he refuses to put new ones on because he likes to wear strings out til at least one breaks. I'm not lying when I say this, his strings were so dark and rusted. It sounded like someone was directly shitting in my ears and by miracle his strings sounded amazing to him because to him they were 'worn in'. I tried to sit him down and explain to him that in order to get anywhere of a 'good' guitar sound he needs to put on a new set of strings. After I told him that he just got really defensive and upset. Swore that new strings don't make a big difference at all and that I had no idea what I was talking about because apparently he records at home with his protools mbox and says that even with old strings his recordings still sound amazing. He grabbed his stuff, stormed off and left. I haven't heard back from him. This happened 2 days ago.

Should I even bother to call this Dbag back and reason with him? Or just leave it and not even mess with it?

Don't bother. That would just be the first of many nightmares.

By the power of grey skull!! ...... Grey skull is right, if he won't change strings even after you've explained the reasons why, then he's only gonna get shitty over something else, he'll probably use a coin because he doesn't want to waste money on a plectrum! Haha

What a LOL, he wants your help but he thinks that know more than you? A big "go fuck yourself" in his face it´s what he needs to hear.

Well I know the customer is always right so to speak. And it is his money, but he's being so unreasonable about this whole thing. He gave me a call back this morning and tried to get me to record him again. And this time he's saying that he just wants me to program the guitar parts in for him since I won't let him use his old strings for the sake of quality. I told him I wasn't going to program guitar parts into ProTools and that he needs to record the parts himself and he hangs up on me. I'm done with this guy.

This is what is wrong with the world these days. These tards don't listen to logic and want other people to do the work for them. Good for you man, better to have higher standards than that.

I've had a similar experience with a guy. He arrived with strings that may have been used aeons ago when dragons ruled the skies. I warned him that it would affect his tone but he insisted everything would be fine.

I sent him the mixes and his reply was....

"I'm not happy with the guitar tone".

Program guitar parts??? Hahahahahahaha

I know, right? He's like "Yeah, just go ahead and program all my parts into proTools and It'll sound better that way". I was facepalming the whole time.

Keep in mind too that he's the same guy whose been trying to convince me Amp sims sound better than a real head/cab because he says you have more options to chose from. I was like "The fuck? Have you even recorded through a halfstack before?" He tells me "Yeah I recorded through my friends roland 10 watt amp before, but his amp sucked because it didn't have enough gain so I stick to amp sims." ... 0_0

This was before I MADE him plug into a head and cab to record. and that's when the whole string nonsense came up. A little backdrop to the story.

I love how guys who have no clue always have to mention pro tools and imply that it does everything by itself and sounds better than anything else

This.

Gotta love Pro-Audio Salesmen Extremists. The ones who are so up their own ass and think that protools is the one and only daw there ever should be.
