Mine is alphabetical...when I get up to motivation to reorganize it, which is usually only once or twice a year. I have like 250 CDs that need to find their new alphabetical homes, which means I have about 14 different stacks of CDs scattered around my room.

my cds are organized by the date i purchased the first album of the band. meaning, the first cds i ever bought are up front and then if i buy more cds from the same band i put them together.

and amazingly i know where 90% of them all are at any given time (which cd book, aprox location, etc.)

Alphabetical ordering never seemed that convenient to me. I have my shelves ordered vaguely by genre (like black metal mostly sits on the bottom right shelf, heavy metal on the left, etc.) and I group CDs by artist. That's about it. Annoyingly I am actually out of proper shelf space now so I haven't even really bought any CDs in a few months because of that.

Holy shit, I feel inadequate when I see the enormous collections some of you have. I have around 170 metal albums, but about 40 of them are burned and the rest is obvious stuff. I don't have much obscure stuff, only stuff I can find at FYE or Virgin.
