I voted for Vai because I bought 3 CD set made by Sony I think at it was shittest music I've ever heard.

I don't like American virtuoso guitarist because they make too pop sounding and too rock 'n' roll style music and it's not heavy metal at all. OK Van Halen is Dutch. The Swede Malmsteen just ripped off Blackmore and Iron Maiden.

If someone say who I like then I'd say Paul Gilbert, George Lynch, Chris Impellitteri. Gilbert was brilliant with Racer X, George Lynch did some cool shit with Dokken.

Did you know that Chris Impellitteri auditioned for Alcatrazz same day and time as Steve Vai? He didn't get the job because he was in high school and too young. So Vai got the job.

I like British guitarists such as Ritchie Blackmore, John Sykes and Gary Moore. More heavier and more energy and soul. Oh and Moore and Sykes can sing too!

I voted for Satriani, and I agree with Bryant that he plays elevator music. I haven't listen to most of his work, so I may be wrong, but what I heard has not caught my attention in any way.
I disagree that Hanneman and King are bad lead guitarists. I think that there soloying ads a lot to the music, and that it is highly responsible of the recognisable unique Slayer touch. They are pretty loyal to the original solos when they play live, and I'm giving them credit for that. It is almost only guitar noise, but it is controlled noise.
I agree that Hammet is the most overrated guitarist in metal. He's just always doing the same licks...
I prefer Testament's Alex Scholnik, he may not be the best technically, but he has a pretty good sense for melody, which was pretty rare in trash bands like Testament. I also realy like Mickeal Romeo and Petrucci.

I gotta agree with trooper and bryant on hanneman/king...and I do like slayer...but only for the riffs...not the leads! I think they're both great "riffmeisters" like Tony Iommi but their leads could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch!
I agree with all of you guys. I've benn bashed a lot (in some other forums) for saying that the thing that keep me away from Slayer is the lack of ability to put a decent solo from those two mummies. I'm sorry I cannot live only from riffs.

I quite like the guitar playing by Becker/Friedman on "Speed Metal Symphony", but I don't listen to it much because shred albums do bore me.

i dont agree about slayer, but one point you reinstated that i wanna comment on is iommi being a riffmaster and NOT a solo master. I cant believe like guitarworld or w/e put Iommi at number 1 cause i know people that can riff close to him or maybe as good as him but can defintly solo way over his goddamn head, so thats something i never understood.

Godking thanks for the fast facts on Impellitteri, I didn't know that & I will add that to my "grey matter hard drive" for a later time. I love Blackmore & I thought he was excellent, still do thought he has lost his marbles. John Sykes is a great player, I don't think he's much of a singer. Gary Moore? I think he's a decent player & boring as a singer. I don't understand his obsession with "trying" to sell himself as a "blues" artist. He's not & NEVER will be. Still Got the Blues? Give me a fuckin' Break! Ditto on what you said about Vai, about the only decent shit he's done was in Whitesnake, where Coverdale had some control over him.

Ahhhh now on to Slayer, I hate to say this, I love Slayer at least until Seasons, but for the most part the majority of their leads seem to sound identical or very close to the last solo you heard. I think that the Kerry & Jeff nevere out grew the "shredsturbation" & that's why the band is in the pickle that they are in now.
I have said it before the only band that has been successful releasing the same record year in year out has been AC/DC.
