Shure beta 98 question

Do you need the inline preamp to power the mics or can I use an external preamp like the GAP73?

I'm afraid I blow them up.

You need the in-line pre. It's doesn't provide amplification to the signal like a regular preamp that you are used to working with.. it converts shure's Mini-XLR beta connector to XLR.. you can't connect it to an external preamp without the in-line pre.. I don't believe phantom power will be provided properly if you use an adapter
