Out of the box:
Fucking boomy. This is weird since it's supposed to be mid forward according to most reviews I've read. Then again... "The internet"

I'm gonna have to test the break in theory again, should be easier to do with headphones than a guitar speaker.

I hope it is true cause I'm not too pleased so far.:(

Really? Honestly i tried a shitload of headphones and ended up with these because I felt the low end was the most honest.

My old K271 sounds much flatter but the transient response isn't too great unfortunately.

heard they're meant to be more honest/less exaggerated in the low end than m50's. always worth using a bit for break in/getting used to.

been keen for a while to get a pair to compliment my m50's but haven't got round to it yet. be cool to hear how you get on with them....

I grabbed the SRH240's a few years ago mainly to send click to drummer. They seemed very thin sounding and a bit harsh in the higher end. Then again, they were $60.

I have to agree with Burny, the 840s I had didn't live up to the reviews I've read. I was expecting them to be much flatter with good details in the mids. Everything seemed to sound distant with emphasis on the lows and highs(scooped).

I've been blasting radio through it for 24h now. It made a subtle difference. The overall character hasn't changed. It's too boomy for monitoring purpose in my book. Not totally unpleasant for casual listening, but certainly not flat enough to decipher what's going on in the low mid/low area.
