Who'd have thought that a side project featuring members of doom/death metal groups like Children of Bodom, Impaled Nazarene, Dimmu Borgur et al could be so damn GOOD?

These guys (and girl) knock me for six every time I hear them, so I did a bit of research and was amazed to find that in their respective other bands, they play a style of music I normally go out of my way to avoid.

Imagine revivalist trad/power metal with amazing melodic vocals from a lady by the name of Kimberly Goss. There's a slight tendency towards cheese in the lyric department, but that's part of their appeal .

The most recent album is called "To Hell and Back" (2000), and there'll be a new one on the way early next year.

As well they should, my dear Spawn. Kimberly Goss could sing the phone book and make it sound good. There is not a growl, yell or cry of COOOO-KIIIEEE! to be heard emanating from her damn powerful lungs.

Ironically, the death/black/doom crowd turned their noses up at Sinergy when they first appeared. Guess they were expecting something a bit less melodic and easy to sing along to. Still, most of that mob (excluding MD members who like that kind of thing ) wouldn't know a good, properly tuned riff if it gored them rather savagely in the hind quarters .

I'd post the address of a band website if I knew where to find one. They're on Nuclear Blast if that's any help.

I've just downloaded half a dozen mp3's from audiogalaxy, on Wraths recommendation. Well worth the listen. Wrath has made up for his programme/program faux pax.

You gotta remember I'm only relatively new to this whole "Power Metal" caper. Last 6 months or so. All power metal gets compared to IE in my book.

Dammit, now I'm scared.

I heard one Synergy song on a compilation DVD and it was OK. I think it was Midnight Madness. GREAT music, but I just don't like the singing at all.

If you have an open mind and like good MMMMMMMMMMETAAAAAAAAAAL, listen to Children of Bodom (I'd start with Hatebreeder) - great stuff. Then drop everything and listen to In Flames (I'd start with Colony or Whoracle) - BRILLIANT stuff!

In Flames suck though, if they would piss the vocalist off they would be BRILLIANT! But the vocalist is so bad its unbelievable, I mean what in gods name were they thinking having him sing? "Hey we can write totally awesome metal music that would top the charts and make us HEAPS of fans, so lets get the crappiest vocalist of all time to sing!"
