Singing in a Band

I am the vocalist of two bands (see sig). Both are death metal, so I growl mostly, but I never took any lessons for it (there aren't many people teaching growling-techniques...). Some common sense and a bit of warm-up has been good enough for me. With common sense I mean things like:
* Don't start screaming away without any kind of warmup, you'll rip your throat up even if you don't do death vox.
* Use your gut muscles to sing, you should feel them becoming tense when you hold your hands on your sides while singing.
* Don't do shit that hurts. So what if you don't hit the perfect note? At least you'll be able to keep on singing...
* Don't smoke.
* Drink a lot to moisten your vocal chords when singing. Not too cold though.
* Have fun.

Did u get singing lessons?
Are they Helpful?
If not what are sum tips on singing

I sing/growl in a band. I've never had lessons, only a few useful tips from an established singer about 8 years ago. These are for normal singing. I've gathered these tips friend singers and from internet and noticed they're good.

1) Breathe into your diaphragm, so that your stomach enlarges, but nothing else. No lifted shoulders, no rising chest. Sing while you exhale.

2) The feeling in your throat should be pretty much like if you were yawning.

3) Keep your jaw down and relaxed.

4) Tongue should be relaxed and down too, as if like saying the word "sign."

5) Keep your larnyx down. Very important, and I personally find this difficult. When you sing high notes the larnyx rises and blocks the voice. In some fucking way I don't really know it should be kept down :D Calls for lots of rehearsing.
