Ska anyone...

hey, there's more to ska than the bosstones (altough they're a pretty good band). It's been about since the 60's - started in Jamaica, developed into rocksteady and reggae, enjoyed a resurgence in the UK in late 70's with bands like The Specials and Madness, etc.

I find myself listening to ska and metal, same as a few of the lads in my band. Our trombone player's a sabbath nut, guitarist's into Zeppelin, etc.

Check the band out here:

or a song here:

*** warning - isn't metal ***

Am I going to get a load of grief for listening to other stuff? There's more to life than downtuned root and fifth chords!!

Lots of good Ska came out of England in the late 70s and early 80s. Good stuff. I prefer Reggae but Ska is fun. Back in the 80s there was a big Mod\Ska scene going on.

ahum!! better then the Bosstones?? sorry my man , no one could do it better then the Mighty Mighty Bosstones!!!!!!!!!

Bosstones are the only band in the last 10 years that I have totally gotten into. Their music is heavy, melodic, fast and Dickie writes great lyrics.

......... it's called " the impression that I get"

Guys, I'm well aware of the songs title. I said it that way becuase most people that are not into the Bosstones know that song and thats how its refered to by them... but I guess I could have maid that a bit more clear. Seems like quite afew people around here like the bosstones thats cool. Do you know af any decent web sites that have any current info or anything like taat. Sucks since the official one is down. They never did come out and say their done or anything. Lets hope this is just a long break.
Have you heard Avoid one Thing? Good stuff. It has Joe Gittleman the bass player for the bosstones in the band he sings/bass. The first album has a very high bosstones feel. The second one he got more writing help from the two other ppl in the band and in turn it sounds less bosstone-ish but still good.

I played the bagpipes professionally for 6 years and played for President Clinton twice at the OK city bombing anniversary ( first and second year) with the Red LION PIPE BAND. I since kinda given it up. I still have them but dont play anymore. Ive played Amazing GRace so many times at funerals and weddings that every time I hear it I about puke.

I really dont like SKA much. Rancid is good and Streetlight manifesto is good, but thats about it. Sublime sucked, Reel bish fish had like two songs I liked, Goldfinger had like maybe two. No Doubt were pretty good, until Gwen killed them. Never liked the Bosstones either. Big Band was okay, old school stuff wasnt bad. Brian Setzer was cool but , big bad voodoo daddy and royal crown revue bored me. OF course the stray cats ruled.

Rancid is not Ska

But they have some ska songs. And one album was mostly all ska. Out come the wolves was still their best by far. I like their newer stuff though.

Black hawk down Black hawk down black hawk down bleow.

Rancid. Is not. Ska.

I know this, argue fuckin semantics a little more. Who gives a flying fuck? I lump ska, punk and hardcore together because for the most part It all sucks and I dont like it. I know they are fucking street punk , but they hav a ska album and some other ska songs Correct? Correct. That was the fucking point.
