Hey dudes! Tracked this band a couple of weeks ago at a nearby studio. I did a single for them before and they came back and did their 4 track EP with me aswell. I'm far from happy, my ears are bleeding and I could use some advice on how get this sounding more "ear friendly".

The drums were some sparkly Gretch maple set with fairly tired skins.

Kick is 100% Slate 10,
Snare was both top and bottom miced with 57's, and top has Slate 5A blended in at like 60-70%,
Toms are all natural, 57's
Some weird looking Sennheisers for overheads (Spaced pair) with an additional large membrane condenser for the Ride (brand unknown),
And for room I used a Rode NT2 i believe, placed like 2 feet of the ground and 5 feet infront of the kit.

Guitars were done some Hagström-guitar (shitty intonation and the guy used fucking .046-.009 strings for drop D) into a 5150 with mesa cab, single sm57, but the guy insisted on using his Boss multieffect pedal for distorsion to capture "their live sound", sounded fairly good on the Genelecs in the studio but in my rp5's a couple of weeks later the tone makes me sick.

Anyways, hit me with some feedback and advice!

Yeah, I'm trying to get it sounding less harsh, but i don't know how. Perhaps tighten up the lowend then, and maybe some more lowmids. Also, I can't quite figure out how to master with Ozone, it should be a no-brainer, but that Loudness Maximizer shit just destroys everything!

my speakers are terrible, but this sounds very very sparkly in the top end, with not a lot beneath it. I can tell guitar's a multifx pedal, it has that pre-compressed sound and it doesn't have many frequencies in it to work with does it? which means that you'll probably have to make the drum kit sound a bit earthier i think. as my speakers are terrible i can't hear the bass really.
if you want me to say more send me the mp3 and i'll put it on a cd, listen to it on something else, but i don't know as much as you, all i've got are decent ears.

This is exactly where I stop the band, toss the Boss, and tell them that their live tone about to sound 100x better
