Indeed. I actually find that some of the more rocky tracks on it are the crapper ones. I can't even remember the titles coz they just aren't memorable songs lol. But stuff like Civil War, Estranged, 14 Years, Yesterdays, Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Don't Cry.... just awesome!!! And of course Get In The Ring is a great rocker... and You Could Be Mine is just about the best Guns N Roses track ever :)

Yeah, exactly. I don't think either UYI albums are that great, but they have some awesome shit on them. Civil War, You Could Be Mine, Get In The Ring, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Don't Cry, ect are all classic material. I don't think many of you will feel the same, but damn I can't wait to hear 'Chinese Dimocracy'. I don't think it will be that great or anything, am just damn interested to hear it. :)Back to the topic however, Metallica/Kirk are still better. :D

What if Satriani taught me but I was still a lousy guitarist? Would that make me better than Slash? Being taught something doesn't necessarily mean you're good at it. :)

Kirk is way overrated. Technically very good, but the ability to play fast is hardly a measure of how good someone is. I find Kirks solos don't really say anything, and don't really add anything to the music, infact they sometimes detract from it. Slash has some soul.
:D

Kirk is only overrated because every guitar magazine in the world wants him on the cover because almost every guitar magazine reader wants to read about him...

I dont see how his solos dont add to the music, thats absurd! :)

Spawny's right. :)

I think they just play different styles. Slash plays with soul, thats true, but Kirk shreds, and really rocks. I don't see Slash playing the thrashy leads and solos that Kirk has busted out on songs like 'Battery' ect. And saying his solos don't add to songs is ridiculous....again, go and listen to 'Battery'. :)

As I said earlier, I think they are both great guitarists, and expected Slash to be the favourite, but I think Kirk rules. :)

I also have a problem with Kirk being called overrated when every single metal band in existence from the last 10 years is influenced by Metallica!

Yeah, but how much of that influence is from James's's rhythm guitaring work stuff? Guitar solos have become redundant since Eric Clapton's solo for While My Guitar Gently Weeps anyway.

I think they are both equally important in the guitarry influence scheme of things :)

I think Kirk is overrated merely because so many people rave about him, and honestly I don't see why. He was the reason I started listening to Metallica, and I used to really like him, but then I grew to dislike his playing. Honestly, I just find it uninspiring- technically very good, musically very boring. I mean, compare Marty Friedman's work on Rust in Peace- now those are solos that say something, and genuinely add a sense of climax to the song (which IMO is what a solo should do, not just some guitar wanking because it happens to be the part of the song where a solo should go, although that can be fun in the right song :D). I don't get that from Kirk's playing (for instance the Master Of Puppets solo, I fail to see the point of that solo, how it actually adds to the song). Sure, he has some good stuff, but overall I don't like it.

Just my opinion, thousands disagree with me, I'm sure :)

the UYI albums shoulda just been released as one hell of a good album rather than 2 only good albums

Slash is good for the ease of how he seems to play solos...argument over :p

Well Kirk Hammett is my GOD as you will probably hear from me a lot.

I think his solos have as much, or even more feeling than Slash's... except for a couple of Slash's solos. Disposable Heroes is not only the most under-rated metal song in my opinion, but is also Kirk's best solo. I think every one of his solos suits the music perfectly, and they all feel very polished and are very memorable.

On the otehr hand, Slash has written what is the greatest solo of all time in my opinion. The final solo in November Rain is simply a masterpiece, a musical orgasm that makes you shit your pants.

The other two solos in November Rain are fairly weak, however (it is my second favourite song behind Stairway)

Kirk is better technically, and writes (on average) better solos, and is my GOD.

Therefore, he gets my vote.

and he is my GOD.
