Slate Pro Audio Dragon

I believe someone here has one in their rack, the guitarist from Divinity (I forget his name and username), haven't seen him post in a while though. He posted it in the Latest GAS Purchases thread quite a while back if you sift through that \_(o_O)_/

That would be Sacha.

I'd REALLY like to try one of these, but part of me thinks I'd spend all day trying out different combinations of settings instead of just making music.

Hey just saw this, yeah I have one. Probably not the best guy to give an empirical review since this is one of my first hardware compressors... To me it sounds awesome though, super versatile and useful on a ton of sources.

I used it for parallel comp on snare on this track if you want to hear an example: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2183128/Aberrant.mp3

Also had great success with it on bass and vocals.

Tracked all weekend with the dragon. This session was running through Chandler LTD-1 with a lauten oceanus mic. The sheer magnitude of tweaking you can do with the dragon makes it a studio godsend. One of the best comps I have ever used. We will be doing some tracking with U87+6176 later on. But after this experience I cannot imagine a combination that this would not be good for. I could see using 2 of them as a nic mastering comp as well. The vintage switch lets you bleed in that old school distortion. It has the ability to sound classic or modern. If you can demo one I highly recommend it.
