sleeping sun...

nightwish is fucking lame. seriously. one of my friends is obsessed with them and i have to listen to their ridiculousness every time he drives me somewhere with my friends and it makes me want to jump out the window haha (but i guess this song could objectively be viewed as nice since it has epic synth and melodies and singing, still don't like it though)

One of my all time favourite Nightwish songs! You need to check out the proper video for this! I think they actually did two recorded versions of this song, Tarja sings it in a different key on the later version (if I remember correctly). :)

Two videos as well.........I like the later one better, really atmospheric. Fits the song better too.

Would love to hear Pete Murphy singing this!

really, why?
You have to ask? "Nightwish". Night, Wish. What the fuck is that about? Combine-the-words?

"Hmmm, we need a band name. Let's see... 'Night', that's always metal, right? OK, so 'Night' for the first part. But we gotta have something all flowery and fruity to make sure people know we make pixie music... wait, I got it! 'Wish'! That's fruity enough, right? Right? OK, so that makes 'Nightwish'! Awesome. What do you mean it doesn't make sense? Like, a wish in the night and... stuff! Damn, I'm good!"

Nightwish the name sounds good on the ears...

it's inspired by Pinocchio (sp) when he was wishing upon a star (at night).

Or maybe the two founding members of Nightwish, wished for a hot babe to sing with the voice of an angelic MILF swan and Satan granted it. But of course...after most deals with Satan, Satan always backs out of the deal before you even die to lose your soul to him so Tarja left in 2005.

Nightwish has some pretty good songwriting, but then so do a lot of proggy/folk bands. What set them apart was Tarja. They have done fine without her, but how many people started listening to them without knowing who she was? Nightwish? Oh yeah, it's that metal band with a real opera singer!

While she's definitely not the only vocalist on the planet who can sing the way she does, she's one of the few, if only who does this in metal. Love or hate Nightwish or her own band, but you cannot deny her voice. I happen to think they have a handful a really good songs. Most of which are the of the heavier flavor of course.:)
