hi!

anyone used this mic before? i'm thinking about buying an sm7b especially for vocals, but what else is i god for. and as far as i know the models 7/a/b are basically the same.

first model = 7
improved version = 7a
improved, bigger windshield = 7b

how are your experiences with the sm7b?

thanks

I remeber opening exactly the same thread before I bought one:)

Anyway:
I LOVE it on vocals and highhat
I really like it outside the kick to add some extra thump to another mic
Some people love it on guitars too, I've tried it once and liked the sound on it's own very much but didn't work at all in the mix (guitars sounded way to big and where really where they shouldn't be, all over the place)

Well these are great vocal mics, hence they are the weapon of choice at our radio studios. Haven't personally used them on anything else but I heard some decent clips with them on guitars.

Apparently the big difference with the "b" is it requires less gain, which is a major selling point for me!

I got some serious magic running one of the older models into an API 512c > Distressor > Apogee Rosetta. It was a sort of thrash/power hybrid singer and in his case I really didn't want the nuances. The tone was ace. Clear as mud, with a nice, textured and somewhat saturated midrange, and edgy upper mids. Sounded like it virtually mixed itself. Seems like an invaluable mic to have in the arsenal.

I'm not privy to the differences, but it seems hard to go wrong here.
