This'll probably go the way of my ill-fated Nirvana thread, but that's cool. Anyhow they fuckin' rocked, and while the radio and MTV hits didn't show it, they were quite metal at times (songs like Quiet, Tales of a Scorched Earth, Bodies, and several others). I first heard them at age 14 and thought they were whiny trendy faggy crap, but then a few years later Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness came out, several songs were on the radio about every 10 minutes, and I fell for the hype and bought the album. Still listen to it quite regularly and enjoy it just as much as I did back then.

Discuss, spam, fart, piss, etc. :zombie:

The Smashing Pumpkins were one of the greatest bands ever, period. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and Siamese Dream are classics! Though they had a general decline towards the end of their career, there was gold in the beginning. I have a HUGE poster/flag of them back in the day on my wall. I'll take a picture some time.

I love Gish and Siamese Dream, as well as Pices Iscariot, the b-sides compilation from that era, but think the band took a major dump w/ Mellon Collie and everything after that. I don't dislike it all, but I can't get excited about much of it.

I didn't really like Adore or Machina... but then again the last time I heard them has to have been 3 - 4 years ago. I should try them again.

I agree, they are a great band. I never bought any of their albums or anything but did enjoy the hell out of them. They had some really kickass songs. And yes, they do bring back some fucking memories.

It's funny how music brings back memories and weird feelings all over again from a time passed. Pretty mystical.o_O

The more I think about it, the Pumpkins were the 90s version of Yes...an enigmatic lead vocalist with a tendency for vaguely mystical and/or philosophical lyrics, bombastic arrangements, lots of self-importance, and the obligatory all-encompassing double album.

Oh shit yes. Albums purchased between the years of '94 thru '97 specifically, damn near every one of them can bring back my thoughts, feelings, even the smell of memories. Love it. :kickass:
