Snare Drum HELP ME PLEASE

Hello my friends, I´m a newbie here lookin for help to improve my mixing skills...

Most of the Heavy Metal Snare Drums have no rim´s sound...
How do I get rid of this rim´s metallic sound in the mix leaving just the punch of the snare sound?

Also could someone here explain how to get that gated reverb snare sound just like 80´s metal/hard rock?

if you dont want to trigger, split the signal, compress the hell out of one, and mix it in with the other signal

Do you do this with toms too, mixing a compressed signal with an uncompressed one?
