Snare drum question (sidestick)

Hey sneapsters.

So, this band I'm recording a single for has a part in their song where the drummer uses sidestick on his snare.

I have no idea how to mix this, and believe you me, I've tried.

Any tips for me?

I usually duplicate that section on a separate track and use different processing (EQ/Comp) tailored to the part.

That's what I'm getting at though. What kind of settings do you normally go for?

EQ out all the lows, you dont need them, comp to level it out, limiter to catch the peaks, another eq to cut the boxyness and add some hi end to help it pop and you're good to go. If its a softer section add a bit of reverb to taste.

Most important thing is finding a good hit spot near the mic. If it fits the song, use less OH than usual in that part.
