This is my friends' band's EP that I'm mixing for them. They call themselves "post black metal", some of their other songs on this EP are more suited to that label but who cares about labels???!

Anyway, any advice on this would be great, particularly on the snare.

I used metal foundry tomas haake custom snare blended with a sneap sample. It would be good to have a slightly fatter and more ringy sound - something that sounds less flat than this. Suggestions...?

Great song.
But hmm, the drums don't really work for me. The toms are clearly too fake, kick is too clicky for this kind of genre. I'd try to make them sound dark-warm (can't come up with better explanation, sorry :/). The snare, actually, was the best part of the kit for me.

I agree with Turtlemod on the drums. Kick is too clicky. This would benefit from those room tracks in Metal Foundry, especially the toms and a little snare bled into it.

I like the guitar sound a lot, though.

Interesting take on the drums.. I hadn't thought of it like that but now I see it. I'll work on it. Thanks for the feedback, gentlemen.

can't wait for the updated version. What's the name of the band, btw? Looking forward to hearing more from them

Rosicrucian is the band. I did their first EP for them, I was rushed to finish it though so it came out sounding as such (all snare and muddy as hell) and now they're going on tour and I'm remixing it for them to distribute at gigs.

http://www.facebook.com/rosicrucianuk you can hear a couple of the original mixes on there. "Beneath the Waves" is my favourite.

(updated version coming in a few minutes*)

I'm diggint the more reverby sound of it. Toms are better, but maybe mess around with the velocities tad bit more in 0:30 part? sounds too obviously robotic.
