Hey guys, I could use a little help with this one.....

I'm doing a deathmetal mix right now.... As I'm sure most of you know, I've got a thing for retro-metal & can handle that stuff just fine.
Anyway, I'm curious if any of you can point me in the direction of some of your favourite snare verbs for the fast, blast-beat kinda stuff.

Thanks,

Perfect space sonar convolution with the long plate impulse...

But i do love audio damage's Reverence too!

Oh, and check your PM for a new message!

I still dig ArtsAcoustic for my snare verbs - for more blast-oriented stuff, I lower the send from the snare, though.

I hope Dave Otero chimes in, though - he gets some of my favorite drumsounds for super technical stuff.

Most of the time I don't like convolution verbs on drums. Lately I've been using Wizooverb a lot on drums, I like it quite a bit!

For deathmetal I like a verb that's not too long and has a predelay that creates this soft slap back effect. Like on the last Decapitated, works very well in the mix imho.

i use UAD's plate 140 on the dsp card, with a compressor with fast attack to stop the snare from jumping out

i do this on an fx bus and send every drum track to it, at different send levels

gets you that room sound without the cpu hassle

Ive only recently found the right verb for my snare. Perfect Space which Gav enlightend me by :) So much more even than the Rverb's that I was using previously. PS for teh win! :kickass:

Is this some licensed version of Voxengo Pristine Space ?

Is the impulse public domain or copyrighted ? Can you post it ?

Yeah, Sonar has Pristine space included but it's a single channel version instead of the 8 that the Voxengo one has.

With regqards to the impulses, it comes with sonar so i doubt that it's fiar game to post...

I've found Freeverb 2 to be excellent for all metal drums. You just EQ it accordingly with your favourite plug-in on the FX track and it's all good. Very simple parameters... cuts like a hot knife through the proverbial.

There are some nice metal and rock mixes with a lot verb on the kick. First band that comes in my mind is Iron Savior.

I'm trying to come off using verb on drums altogether. A lot of the guys doing popular rock music are favoring using the room to add all the space. I'd love to hit mixing with that approach because it's so different to anything I've tried so far.

Not sure how successful that would be in modern metal music.. but hell it's worth a shot. I mean my fave metal drum mix would have to be Nightrage's 'Sweet Vengeance'. The drums don't actually sound like the drummer is playing a xylophone!
