and this sucks. It sounds like new In Flames with a clean vocalist with no power whatsoever and more geigh keyboards. This is Power Metal?

Anyone ever have a similar experience when recommended an album?

Glad I didn't pick up their cd "Rapture" when I saw it for $7 in a used record store! I knew I'd heard of them, but the asian guy with a sword on the back was a stong deterrant.

You're thinking of Dragonlord, as Dragonland never released a CD called Rapture.

Anyway, Dragonlord are good, so getting that CD for $7 would have been a bargain, though I agree that Dragonland blow.

Uhhh...that's Dragonlord. and that "asian" guy is Eric Peterson of Testament...but yeah, they suck to. Dragonland is far, far worse however.

Hell, every band with dragon in it's name sucks.

I like Dragonforce. It's cheesy, but damn can they play. It's like Rhapsody with talent and balls.

Not a big fan of Dragonland, and I don't know much Dragonlord.

If you want power metal that's truly powerful, check out Helstar's Distant Thunder and Elvenking's Heathenreel.

Yeah, I also enjoy the overjoyous variety of power metal on occasion. You can't always be riff-til-deth, y'know? Blind Guardian are legends because of their scope. The bardic stuff saved them.

Don't compare BG to dragonforce. Their early Speed Metal rips those flower metal fools 5000 new assholes. Their recent power metal works are a hell of a lot different, much more complex without all the wanky solos.

Dragonforce are far from Flower Metal. They're not thebest Power Metal band out there, but they're tolerable. Dragonlord has a couple decent songs. Dragonland is fucking crock.

Deathdeath is awesome. I like their old stuff better though. I don't like Ton(e)s of Hate too much... Fragments of Insanity is of the utmost quality, however.

I still only have Mater of All Evil, but DBK, my roommate and I are going on a massive record buying spree next weekend, and Kyle says he knows some good stores for obscure shit. So I'll keep an eye out for *snicker* Necrodeath.

Oh, in regards to the original post, I generally don't follow people's recommendations unless they seem to have similar taste to me, at least in the area I'm looking for. The closest thing was when one of my friends burned me a mix with some Opeth on it.
