I occasionally see threads appear of people who are drunk or high....on a regular base....

Now I can see the fun of being drunk or stoned when you're in your teens, early twenties. As soon as you hit 22/23 isn't it more of an addiction then something fun if you've been doing it for all those years?

After this thread I feel like changing my nick:

Well as I've gotten older, the whole binge drinking thing has become less and less common.
It used to be every weekend, but now it's only on rare occasions. These days I just like to sit down with a few beers, enjoy the taste of them and chill out with some friends rather than go fucking nuts and drink 12 beers.
As for weed, I haven't used it in nearly 5 weeks now. Sometimes I used it a few times a week, sometimes I go for well over a month without it

Not sure to be honest, but I rarely drink and never do drugs. Just a beer every so often to cool off on the hot days, or when I can't sleep. The binge drinking thing kinda passed, but I think a lot of it hinges on a person's social circumstances. If a lot of your social opportunities involve drugs, then I guess you indulge more than someone else whose opportunities are more reserved. Both can be costly habits, and they are distracting, so they don't interest me at all. I hate having people rant at me about how drunk or stoned they are, as if it's a badge of honor.

FWIW I NEVER pay for weed. I only ever use it if someone else has it. No way would I pay for it. I'd rather spend that money on decent beer or guitar stuff really.

I'm 34.
I drink every weekend since 1990. Just beer (10-12 or so, on special ocasions more) and from time to time rum+coke.

I never tried drugs except some joints when I was 15.
I'm hypochondriac, so taking drugs woul probably be a hell.

no

lots of people drink on occasion throughout their entire lives...some of them get drunk, some not

there's also plenty of productive members of society who smoke weed throughout the course of their entire life, and there's not a damn thing wrong with it

but, like anything else in life, moderation is key!

there's also plenty of productive members of society who smoke weed throughout the course of their entire life, and there's not a damn thing wrong with it

but that's the weird thing...i still have to meet the first person that can keep it in real moderation...

I had a friend when I was 15/16 we smoked weed together, he was a promising soccer player..was inducted in the youth of ajax, and had more things going for him. he only smoked weed, when he was 18 he got kicked out of there, since they kept warning him about using weed. Now 24 (he's now 25), when I see him, he's stoned like a shrimp.. doesn't have a day-job...wanders around a bit.

I totally get drinking in moderation, but getting stoned in moderation is something that's impossible.

When you drink in moderation you feel your body changing due to the alcohol. You drink because (hopefully) you like the taste of it. But drinking to get drunk, isn't that just an addiction?

You don't smoke weed because it tastes good, now you do it for the feeling you get from it.

I'm starting to question alcohol more and more. My friend, and also bandmate, used to (allready at age of 18) have a huge drinking problem. At a certain moment he had to stop drinking because of medication. He got sane and told me he actually was drinking to much. When he got of the medication he started drinking again. Which for the first year pretty ok, but after that, and especially now, when he comes over, he always has atleast (!) a 6-pack with him..for himself.. And drinks every night...

And I really want to meet a 40 year old person who smoked weed from his teens up until now who is a productive member of society.

All I see from my old schoolmates is that the ones who got passed the getting drunk and stoned period now have solid and steady jobs, the ones that didn't still get drunk and stoned and only take a shit once a day productivity wise..

"but that's the weird thing...i still have to meet the first person that can keep it in real moderation.."

All I can say is honestly you've met the wrong people/hang around the wrong people.
I know PLENTY of people who can drink in moderation with no problems and plenty of marijuana smokers who use it maybe only about once a month or so

I gotta say although i partake in both greenage and booze, its very much occasional, like at the weekends, and if i'm not out at the weekend, i'll maybe get a bottle of red wine or a can or two of jack n coke to go with a single meal

the weed is strictly when my son is out of the house at his nan's or if i'm out for the night and a friend offers me some... the last 1/8 i got has lasted about 2 months so far...

as for moderation

I know a guy with an epic level of intelligence, both socially and technologically, this same person's piss sample until recently could quite probably be used as a powerful hallucinogen that would leave you in a realm of insanity leaving you drooling in a semi-comatose state

I dont drink as much as I used to but I smoke on a semi-regular basis.(At the end of the day after I'm done doing whatever I had to do that day) And its usually just before i go to bed ill just lay down put the tv on and smoke a bowl then go to sleep...Here and there i will smoke a little earlier if I have nothing else to do.

I'd say im still a pretty productive person. I put in 60-70 hour work weeks quite often and dont miss a day and im never late for anything. My memory is still better then alot of people i know who dont drink or smoke anything. And ive been smokin and drinking since i was about 13-14, And i'll be 24 in about 9 days. So to answer the question- yes some people can still be productive while indulging in the dark side

Meh, I take a toke or two every night. It's not like I smoke blunts day and night. I'm talking literally a toke or two. I do have beer everyday and that varies. Again, at night.

Define productive member of society? My girlfriend and I are both medical transcriptionist, we work from home and we make more than enough money to support ourselves and our 2 doggies. We both have smoked every day since we were in our younger teens, and we are both in our mid twenties now. Our boss owns her own ranch, is active in her kids' school sports and PTO programs and she owns an embroidery business as well... She also tokes every day. I know a couple that are in their mid 50's, they both are registered nurses that work at a local hospital and guess what, they get high too. One of my closest friends works at the same hospital as a respiratory therapist. He graduated from college top of his class and now also teaches the 1st and 2nd year students at the local college, smoking massive amounts of dank buds the whole time. The point is that weed is not physically addictive like crack, coke, meth, alcohol, etc. A lot of people would be failures whether they started smoking or not. I guess its something people only understand if they have been smoking for a long time, but I could understand a non-smoker having a different point of view on the matter.

Used to smoke weed when I was like 14 with my friends and drink like a fish , but I do neither anymore. My family has a real history or alcoholism and drug addiction (2 family members are constantly in and out of rehab) so it kind of gives you perspective, like wow, don't want to end up like them. I dropped that stuff and switched to working out whenever I am stressed , which is IMO a much longer lasting mood booster and is obviously healthier in the long run , but I don't look down on people that do that stuff , as long as you can do it without needing it every 10 minutes.

I used to drink every now and then when I was 16-19. I haven't felt any need or desire to do it since then, I probably drink 3-4 times per year, at birthdays and similar events. I've never smoked or taken any drugs whatsoever even though a lot of people in my surroundings did.

I feel the need to get very drunk at least once a week. It's a habit, has been at least the last 8 years. Feels like the weekend is wasted if you are not, hehe

Back in 2006 when I was unemployed I used to get hammered 3 times a week. Did not feel wery healthy then :erk:

I honestly see myself smoking pot till I die. I don't see a reason not to do so.

This!

I started drinking and smoking when I was 19, long after I graduated high school because I was so anti drugs. It didn't help that all the retards I went to school with treated booze and weed like it was some part of social status, like "I went to school high today, hey everyone look at me I am so cool".

But I keep stashed up on weed, booze is never consistent in my house since my father is an alcoholic, he just killed a half bottle of my Jager and decided to hide it.

Every now and then to light up a bowl with a Jagerbomb and shoot the shit with friends over music and Hookah in your backyard after a long day, its a great thing. As said before, its moderation.
