the thought of teaching someone new the songs and playing with backing tracks and everything is rather quite daunting. This band was my baby and now it is quite likely going to go down the shitter. I'm pretty bummed.

any success stories from a situation like his?
horror stories?

Only horror I'm afraid.

I am giving up after walking 4 drummers through dozens of songs in 2 years only for them to flake.

I'm going industrial. How can I have 100% fake moused drums and call myself a thrash band? At least the fake drums are accepted in industrial music. Fake drums in metal IMO is out of control. Its resulting in very bland drums where the nuances and dynamics have been replaced with compressed quantized perfection. And last time i looked, metal was never polished perfection.

Just my opinion but I think we are in a drum conundrum.

The uber drummers are focussed on blast beats, triggers and speed (which is has now saturated and no longer interesting).
The power drummers are being negated by replacement/compressed drums.
The inventive drummers with touch are not getting the gig because they don't have a $5000 DDrum kit etc etc.

If I were you I would go and beg the ex drummer because in my experience, they are like gold dust.

It's always hard to have new members but fortunately, I've had the luck to gradually change for a better ones.

Finally all those changes have been for good
