I'm using a Macbook, and I just spent several hours last night doing a bunch of tracking...and now after not moving any gear, protools just won't open. It won't even start to open and then say that it can't find any hardware. Any ideas?

People are always asking "HAY SLOAN BUT I NEED TO UPDATE MY COMRPUATA."

FUCK NO.

This isn't directed towards anyone specifically, just the idea of constant updates in general.

lol..so true, funny people have a hard time realizing files get corrupted, and nothing fixes it like a fresh installation of an operating system..lol After a couple years of abuse and download, hell even a couple months if you download a bunch of shit from torrents, porn sites, and etc..or, whatever people download to f up their computer.

Try trashing your Pro Tools preferences. From the Finder go to "your boot drive name" > Users > "your username" > Library > Preferences and trash DAE Prefs, DigiSetup.OSX and Pro Tools prefs. Then restart your machine.

If that doesn't work...

Try backing up, formatting your boot drive, and reinstalling Mac OS X from the DVD that came with your MacBook. It's important not to run any Software Updates unless DigiDesign approves them for Pro Tools. This is true for Mac OS X and Windows, it's just how DigiDesign rolls.
