Time to serve up some ownage. This album is just absorbing my soul right now.

Nae'blis hail from Sweden and play some outstanding soft, atmospheric black metal. Sketches of Reality is a 2007 release and contains four tracks, each clocking in at over 11 minutes in length. Ordinarily, I'd serve up a few tracks as samples, but given the length of each, one will do the trick.

I give you "Sketches of Reality", clocking in at 13:41 (randomly picked because they all own):

Downloaded and listening.

Not digging the vocals much, but the music is good. Creepy but not in a pants pooping type of way. I like the clean passages, atypical of the usual fare.

Cool stuff!

Cool, downloading now.

Also, it's kind of funny to see how the "mythology" of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, is finding its way into (black) metal; Nae'blis, Horn of Valere, Lanfear, Myrdraal etc :D

.

Except the bands don't seem to write songs about it, just take names from it.
Any exceptions?

"The Curse of Evolution" for a song that has many upbeat sections, may be one of the most depressing songs I've heard. The distant chorus with the overcast of sorrowful guttural sighs, mixed in with uplifting guitar harmonies, pulls your heart strings in two different directions, leaving you loose like a yanked shoelace. (This all begins to happen around the 3min mark.) Simply exceptional music that deserves to be heard in the proper format. Will purchase at my earliest convenience.

Kudos.

Edit - The last 3 minutes of the title track is grand. AOTY candidate upon first listen. Top 10 for sure!

This album needs some attention without distraction. I didn't realize how sombre it was going to be and for that, I think you need to turn down the lights and put on the headphones. I've listened to it once and I like it, but I know there's a lot more to unravel.
