so the "best of the year" lists are starting to roll out

IIRC it came out in the US in 2006 as Order and Punishment. So I count it as 2006. Besides, Library Loft is 2005 too if I remember and Dowsing too if you count the leak <_<

i don't think I've every heard a celtic frost record in my life.

that the gathering was quite enjoyable. There is one song called "waking hour" that's among my favorite ever by them.

Since when was Helm a member of the "Hipster" police?

Since I mentioned one of the most important metal records of the eighties and you thought I was talking about a random shitty mallcore band. You can tell us more about what good Heavy Metal you heard this year when you're actually listening to this kind of music.

Hipster police? You fuckin' bet. The Heavy Metal accepts no weak-ass immitators.

A bit more seriously, I call bullshit on stuff like Witch and Sword and whatnot because Heavy Metal depends on sincerity to be potent. A lot of this new stuff from 'reformed heavy metallers "I always loved Heavy Metal, man!"' reeks of duplicity. Xasthur aren't one of these bands, I just don't like their music a lot and I find it odd that they're publicity pushed so much for what they are.

I realize this new type of 'extreme music' listener with no appreciation on how things like that came to be and why they are as they are won't be going away any time soon, but it's really alarming when music that has been considered outmodded by hipsters for tens of years now is being remodelled to appeal to them by the artists themselves.

I definitly agree with that, I mean its definitly an acceptable genre to the mainstream and the hipster crowd, so definitly in those groups longing for something to latch onto like "punx rox" before it, metal is now becoming the new in thing.

I just dont think you should just lump people into to categories because they took something you said out of context to reference a modern (and terrible") band over some band i was unfamiliar with.

To me, the whole..."OmgZ dewd! You have never heard them!" mentality really doesn't accomplish anything accept
emphasize that you basically just have something to prove.

I mean, its the fucking internet mang...lets just be nice.

Also, 4lao, dear myspace friend....I must tell you that Scott [Malefic(Xashtur)] is one of the ABSOLUTE nicest, most laid back guys i have ever met in my life. If i saw him being an asshole, it would be so out of character that i might get in a bad mood.
