So who here has....

I did... I thought it was pretty lame... I mean, prog/power metal is clearly not your cup of tea... Not considering personal tastes, but to me it looked like you don't know shit about the genre....

Other than that, it was not a bad article (it was fun to read, even though I don't agree with most of it).

My knowledge of the prog/power genre is not relevant. The fact that the genre sorely needs an enema is......

I agree that the article wasn't all that great :\
Not because of your lack of knowledge on anything just because it wasn't all that informative. A short little blurb about each band and the press release was all I saw. Even Glenn's comments weren't all that interesting this time around (not that that is your fault...)

You must have missed the "Rumblings from the Machine" article. In it, Rhavin and Raggi proceed to discuss the festival, fans, and the roster. I belive they did an excellent job on the first two topics and a "marginal" job on the roster discussion. I just couldn't take them seriously as they both freely admit to not being traditional prog/power fans. In order to cover up for their limited knowledge and total dislike of the music, they pushed the discussion into a borderline satire. Don't get me wrong as it was funny as hell. However, you stimply have to take it with a grain of salt and smile. On the flip side, I would be more than happy to discuss why I think Cradle of Filfth is a shit band, but it still just boils down to a matter of opinion.

I appreciate the time they took to discuss everything. There is no such thing as "bad press."

Of course, I did go ahead and set up their appointments with their local proctologists for this week. It's going to take weeks to get all that shit out. :p

You take shots at Russell Allen, but enjoy a band whose fronted by Dani Filth? No offense, but I'd put more stock in the musical opinions of N'sych fans.

N'sych?????

Incorrectly spelled words can and will take the venom out of any good insult......

:loco:

On a serious note, I am trying to re-evaluate my perceptions of Symphony X. The problem is I keep falling asleep during the first song........

I would really disagree with this... unless you specifically mean dislike of Dream Theater styled prog metal, then you have a point.

As far as power metal, I have a ridiculous collection of power metal, do very much enjoy some vital bands, but absolutely hate what's happened to the genre.

No, I can't go deep into the power metal scene to discuss all the bands on Underground Symphony or anything, but I'd put my knowledge of the subgenre up against anyone else who's into metal as a whole and not just one corner of it.

Russell Allen's not bad, but Dani has more variations in his vocals and he's not against the wall of being unable to top what people in his style were doing 20 years earlier.

Okay...I just read the "Rumblings From The Machine" article. Are you trying to piss people off?

No, I'm trying to clear the shit out of their ears. :)

Or at least kick around the unoriginal and the complacent.

I don't want people to get all pissed off at me... I want them to agree with me...

But that won't happen, so I guess pissed off is what they'll be!

That is 100% my point. I totally realize what you are saying in regards to being progressive and stretching the boundaries. However, I do have to maintain a sense of commercialism and "mainstream" (for us anyway) in order to make this show a viable financial success. Plus, I love most the bands that you bastards hate anyway. :loco:

As for power metal, I conceed your point. I was making a broad generalization.

I still think you guys are both completey off your fucking rocker in regards to the Russell vs Dani stuff. Your biasness against "retro style" or your love for liking "what's not cool in the mainstream" really hurts your argument. I'm not dismissing the style difference, but Dani sounds like my cat once the rocking chair holding my 300 lbs uncle gets stuck on her tail.

Dani can emit some godawful noises, Russell doesn't. Granted.

But Russell has never just sent chills up my spine from anything he's ever done. Dani has. Check the vocal lines in: Queen of Winter Throned ("When the miscreants fell dead..." passage particularly), A Gothic Romance ("I, at once endeavoured to see Her again..." passage, the entire "Mistress of the dark... Leaving little strength to seal this wretched tomb...." part, the "But poised nectar within my stirs..." and "Doth temptation prowl night in vulvic revelry..." thrash refrains) , Dusk and Her Embrace (the ENTIRE SONG), most of Haunted Shores, Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids ("Raped of faith..." refrains), and large portions of Beneath the Howling Stars...

In this case it's not some analytical jerking off about 'future versus past', it's the fact that Dani is VERY effective and is absolutely mesmerizing to me in a way that Russell just isn't.

When did we pit Dani against Allen? To be honest both are so different that there is no comparison.

We should have asked you to join the debate......

I have no biasness against the "retro" style. I would be lying if I said that I didn't like early Vanden Plas (my VP reviews are on my site) and I have been a DT fan for some years now. I have a problem with it being called "progressive".

The progressive genre had been watered down and diluted because of the need to label these retro bands.

PP has seen alot of good true porgressive acts. Zero Hour, Nightingale, Devin Townsend. I applaud the efforts and the chances you take. I know you got alot shit for Devy.
