SOCCER NATION!

Sad news in the soccer world: Isidore Philip Tisson was shot to death in Brooklyn following a tournament game in which he scored the winning goal for St. Lucia.

Team officials said Tisson had been out celebrating the team's 1-0 victory Sunday over St. Kitt's which sent them to the finals of the Digicel Caribbean Cup tournament.

"It was only the second time in 16 years that St. Lucia has made it to the finals [of this tournament]," said team president, Martin Daniels.

Damn shame. There must be more to this story somehow.
The cops think it was over a woman Tisson was seen arguing with.

BUMP!!

Any desolated and humiliated Real Madrid fans around?

Today's game (Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid) showed what I ALWAYS SAID ABOUT CRISTIANO RONALDO. He's a whiny little bitch.

Barcelona Messid Madrid Up. Big time!

I'm really out of touch with things this past year. I honestly have very little idea of how any teams are doing. I haven't caught any games in a long time. I see that Liverpool is having a disasterous year. West Ham seems to be really hurting from all the sanctions incurred. All 3 EPL promoted teams (Blackpool, Newcastle, and West Bromwich Albion) are making statements that they are there to stay.

World Cup 2018 is in RUSSIA
World Cup 2022 is in Qatar.

Dammit - I thought the USA had a real strong shot at hosting. I'm bummed...

Just watched the live announcement. I must say, although I wanted the USA to get the 2022 WC, I am happy we're going to have the World Cup and Football expanded into new territory.

Qatar is interesting - they're a very small country (less than a million people if I'm not wrong). Also, the temperatures in the summer normally go beyond 100F. That being said, they are talking about a really nifty new air conditioning system for the fans and the games - which I am curious to see.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't even think you are allowed to drink alcohol in public in Qatar. That should go over real well with the fans.

For sure. It is illegal to drink in public and/or be drunk in public. I really wonder how things are going to play out. For sure it's going to be a challenge for the fans (to control themselves, lol) and for the Qatar authorities.

The controversy is out there.

I wonder how soon FIFA will want to see a demonstration of air conditioning.

I'm not crying sour grapes or anything (I'm also happy to see soccer expand), but you have to wonder how clean the votes were (for both selections).

Personally I am glad that 2 countries that have never hosted the World Cup got it. Of the last 8 tournaments including Brazil in 2014, five of the countries in which they were held had already hosted the Cup before Mexico '70-'86, Italy '34-'90, France '38-'98, Germany '74-'06 and Brazil '50-'14.
I know it's been a long time since the 30s but there's only been 19 cups.

As for the alcohol, according to Wikipedia:
"Hassan Abdulla al Thawadi, chief executive of the Qatar 2022 World Cup bid, said the Muslim state would also permit alcohol consumption during the world’s most watched sporting event. Specific fan-zones will be set up during the event, they will provide alcohol for sale."

Oh, absolutely. There's a lot of crap that goes on behind closed doors and the public will most likely never know about it. For all we know, some World Cups may have been bought or whatever. Did you see the scandal a few days ago that Panorama did about bribes and stuff? I wonder if that influenced in the final decision (being that the news were broken out by a British media outlet).

The USA never had a chance. With four countries from the same confederation, and Qatar getting 11 of the 22 votes in the first round, where do you think those orphan votes were going? Final was 14-8 over the USA. Now, there is a real chance of the US getting the 2014 WC. Brazil is having real problems with this. If Qatar drops the ball, as I suspect they will, the USA will be the Plan B.

Rumors happen before every World Cup, remember a couple of years ago when they said South Africa wouldn't be able to build their stadiums on time? That the transportation strike was gonna be a factor? That security was an issue?

I think the Brazilians will do just fine.

Enlighten me, because being a Brazilian and following Brazilian political and sports news EVERY DAY, I can tell you for a fact they are not having the problems you talk about - in fact, I don't even know what you're talking about. The WC 2014 will not happen anywhere else - trust me when I say this.

So, tell me... Which problems do you speak of?

It's also unacceptable to be anything other than Russian... in Russia. We'll see how that goes.

I'm so unbelievably pissed that the US didn't get the World Cup. Why? I'm Spanish. Soccer is in my blood. I'm what you might call a "soccer hooligan", and my team finally won this year, and I want another cup in the US, gaddamn it!! What tourists would travel to Qatar!? 130 degrees during the day!? FIFA has lost it's gaddamn mind.

Cool.
Born in Spain?

And no, Fifa has absolutely NOT lost its mind. US had its chance 16 years ago. It's not time for a repeat yet. Other countries such as Qatar deserve the chance as the US did back in 94.

The US World Cup was such a huge success! We already have the stadiums, the places for people to stay, the space for all the tourists.. the idea that Qatar has to build stadiums (and places for all those tourists to do things, indoors!) seems like a huge waste. I know I'm just jealous, but GADDAMN IT I do NOT want to go to Qatar for a World Cup!! Brazil maybe, but Qatar?? What else is there to do in Qatar besides play indoor golf with oil billionaires!?

An no, not born in Spain. My mom is Catalan, I'm a 1st gen. American.

Going back to the originallllllllllllllllllllllllllll post:
ChelseaFC boy since 2008-2009, when my rangers friend suggested I'd either like Chelsea or Arsenal after I got hooked on the game during the World Cup.
Carolina Dynamo - I'm an intern at our local 4th tier pdl club. Getting to watch games on the sidelines = \m/

Might start attending Carolina Railhawks games seeing as theres apparently a new Championship-esque division/league starting up.

On the World cup subject: As long as theres a ban on vuvuzelas I'm cool with the results.
