SOCCER NATION!

I used the links from Justin.Tv to watch the West Ham - West Brom game (not a fantastic game, but I like West Ham, though West Ham just didn't get much going at all. I haven't seen the stats but I don't recall them having any serious shots on goal). It worked okay. However, some of the streams cut out at times, and some went away entirely. Ended up watching most of the second half using one of the P2P clients... which was okay but the screen was small.

Anybody hear anything recent about Arthur Blank possibly buying an MLS team in Atlanta? Be great to get a team here for the 2010 season.

There are plenty of links within Justin.tv, so if it starts cutting, you can always search for another one. That's how I've been doing. It's great, you can find pretty much anything on it.

I heard about Blank trying to buy a team for Atlanta. That'd be cool, although I have already stated my feelings about the MLS.

Recently Brazil's Ronaldo (the original one, not the fake :p) made his triumphant return after another serious injury. He's still out of shape, but already scored 2 goals in the first 3 matches. He's playing for Corinthians in Brazil. I must say it's a dream come true seeing our Ronaldo play for my beloved Corinthians!!! That guy is a true fighter, one of the greatest ever!!

MLS will get better. It already has. I wish this whole Beckham thing never would have occured. What a mess. MLS gets a lot of shit, but its a very young league (though based on other failed professional soccer leagues). When you see all the various leagues out there, you have to thnk that MLS teams are better than some of these countries' leagues. But I recognize that with how big the US is, we expect, hope that our professional league would become something great. One lacking thing is good fan groups. A lot of the teams have fairly poor fan groups (from what I've come to learn from my cousin, who is (was) really involved in the Chicago Fire scene).

But MLS is an important reason for the US becoming a steady good soccer team on the international level. I'd love to see them get back into the top 10, but top 20 is better than where things used to be.

BTW, why isn't Jonathan Spector on the US national team? Or will he likely just join it if the US qualifies for the World Cup? He's really quite good, even if he rarely gets playing time at WHU (though he played yesterday). Spector comes from my home town, though way too young for me to have ever played against him. Unfortunately, Brian McBride was a tad older than me so I didn't get to play against him either (at least not that I know of, remotely possible I played against him in my one season on a travelling team).

I'd love to see that happen, honestly, no matter how skeptical I am.

He's a good player, yes. I am also surprised he's not on the team, but then again, when it comes to the US National team, nothing surprises me anymore. hahaha

Problem will always be money.....the good players always go where the $$$ is...which is why you have a high concentration of the worlds best players in Europe...and as soon as a good player emerges in the MLS he'll get snapped up by one of these leagues and end up as a bench warmer in a big squad for a few seasons.
In Australia we have a similar problem with our League....the good players we produce (guys like Cahill, Kewell, Schwarzer, Emerton) play in Europe and the upcoming good players are all going to Asia to play in average leagues for much more money. The League suffers from having no depth of talent and you can't expect to gather a following and grow with an inferior product.

The MLS needs some better pitches too.....i've seen a few games where teams are playing on NFL fields....markings and all.

Yeah, I hope AB can put this thing together by next year! I will definitely be going to some MLS games in ATL if this does indeed transpire. Are you up for a little futbol, Pellaz?:cool:

BTW, I MUST say that I really am enjoying seeing both Angra Fan AND Angra Rules here simultaneously! We really need to have a Soccer Brotherhood reunion at PPUSA X this year! Sure wish Batmura could be there, too!:headbang::kickass:

I'm trying to start playing again (in one of the various adult leagues). I might start coaching younger kids. I really want to get back into the game in some way.

BTW I was cheering for Hull City yesterday, but their attitude after the loss pisses me off. The fact is that after the 35th minute or so they played fairly poorly, with only a couple legitimate scoring chances, and fairly lifeless defense. The score was possibly legit. I couldn't tell if it hit the goalie's hands or not, but to have a tantrum about it is ridiculous.

Also, grats to Puerto Rico.

Taliwakker - The money issue is definitely important. You have some spread among the 4 major leagues in Europe: Spain, Italy, German and England. Russia also has a number of stars (from what I can tell). But then you have leagues in small nations that survive, such as in Costa Rica.

The key for MLS is to continue to get fans in the seats, and continue to get teams so we can have more than one league tier. There's a lot of money in the US and it could end up flowing to soccer. Look at Seattle. They are selling more tickets for their team than the Mariners are! Which is pretty awesome. Soccer is a growing sport among the youth, so in another 8 years you might really see professional soccer taking off here. But no matter what, as long as fans are watching the games, money will come, and skill level will rise. As for the fields, yeah that will happen over time. The Fire (I root for them since I'm from Chitown) got their own after a few years of not really having a solid home.

And to be honest, I'd rather watch an MLS game over one of the Mexican league games.

edit: One more thing. The US guys that go overseas and don't start still usually get some time in some reserves matches.

I'd love to, but I get off work at 7:30, so I'd have to take off an hour or two early. A weekend game might be cool.

Haven't been to a game at the Ted in 4 years now. (!)
I went to the game when Chipper hit #400 last season!:headbang::kickass::worship:cool: Maybe a Saturday game sometime?

It is:
Villarreal versus Arsenal
ManU versus FC Porto
Liverpool FC versus Chelsea FC
FC Barcelona versus Bayern Munchen
