solo guitars + clipping = crap?

how come sometimes when there's a clipper on the master, whenever there are guitars by themselves in the song they get that crackly distortion? and, is there a way around it?

Clipping the snare and then drum bus so you can ease up on it on the master would be my vote!

I never clip guitars (any channels or busses) because the sound of guitars clipping sounds terrible to me. Maybe try soft clipping or just plain old compression or limiting

Edit: The way around it is to make sure your master buss clipper is set low enough so your guitar tracks are unaffected. Clipping only works well with drums and other transient heavy/percussive sounds IMO
