No, rep doesnt change anything. Does the fact that we may give AsModEe good rep change the fact that hes a good poster? So by your logic I shouldn't bother to rep anyone at all, in which case the whole rep thing is bogus (which is arguable). However I think the rep may serve more as a guide to new people here to see who is a respected member of the "community" and who is not.
