I feel like I should have a more detailed look on the Cakewalk forums, since the Tascam control abilities in Cubase are very limited (screw Steinberg for that).

So I did a little research on the 1884 and it seems that this is a Tascam issue more then anything. I made the mistake in saying that the 1884 works in Sonar but truth be told it has some of the same issue as it does in Cubase. Bottome line it looks as if Tascam has released a product with shit drivers. Not only is it messed up in Cubase and Sonar but a few other top tier hosts aps as well. Sorry

I think you're right about (the) Tascam. It's a good device but apparently you can't get it to work for 100% on any DAW available which is really a shame! I read a lot on the Tascam forums and it seems that a lot of people are having a hard time on getting things to run. Fortunately, I'm just a hobby user and not reliant on any of those features

Anyway, thanks for doing the research! At the moment I'm really out of budget, but I might give Sonar a try in the future!

What's the difference between Studio and Producer edition?

Don't know if you looked or not but the cakewalk site is now updated and has the comparison list between the two editions.

I just got me a fader port, it's not as fancy as the Tascam, but I sure love it! It would be nice to be able to adjust the EQ with it, but I'm not complaining. I just recently got Producer 6, and the main reason I got Producer over Studio was the plugins that you get, plus it has video capability. It looks like 7 studio and prod are close differences in that respect. I'm not a big midi user and all of the new features on 7 are mostly gear towards Midi. The audio snap that Sonar has is nice, its similar to beat detective, only better IMO. And the plugins like session drummer, convolution reverb, and the VC-64 its a very nice compessor / EQ. Just to name a few things. It also has VST support built right into it. Oh yeah, Roland V-Vocal is nice too. I've still only begun to scratch the surface of what this thing can do. I bet 7 is just that much better!

Thanks dude, I just checked it out! Looks like Producer edition just has a ton more plugins, and while I'm sure they kick ass, it's definitely too rich for my blood. What I'm hoping is that I can try and score a sweet deal on the studio edition through my college (gotta love Music Industry being the second biggest major here!)
