Sonar X1

Doesn't look that different to me, just seems they tweaked the layout a bunch. Everythin else looks business as usual. I am glad they gave the drag and drop type thing from Presonus' Studio One. Being able to drop in an actual project file is pretty chill, and I like the look of the new browser.

Looks awesome to me. Then again, I've been using Sonar for more than half a decade, so I'm quite used to the complex interface.
Into features, the one I loved the most is the ProChannel. Up to now I've never even touched Sonar's integrated channel strip, but this one looks like it could get a lot of use with it's 1179/SSL compression and tube saturation features.

That pro channel thing looks pretty cool, and it looks like they"re finally starting to implement things I'd wished for since version 3 and that many other DAWs already had, but I still say Fuck Sonar.

After using Reaper, Sonar just seems like a bloated overly-complex mess. It looks like they're making it bigger and more complicated. In the decade I've been using Sonar it seems like most of the features they flaunt are features I've never needed.

I don't see how it's bloated. I recognize the very steep learning curve though. As a DAW it has a massive array of features and that may be extremely confusing, but I've learned to use almost everything Sonar has to offer with no problem at all. In fact I got so used to it that I just can't migrate to ProTools, even if we have an HD system in the studio.

i love sonar but honestly besides Prochannel i see nothing new nor useful in any way.
in fact i am still using the sonar7 and i am happy with it.

I've been using Sonar since 2000. They came a long way for sure since then. I do pro work with it and it is indeed a solid DAW when run on a good system. The one perpetual issue - and I mean, significant issue - is the high cpu (sonar's cpu) hit when trying to create a networked system (and I've read a handful of folks having trouble with a few VSti's here and there). Apparently, it's how Sonar handles buffering data. This was confirmed by first checking windows resource manager which does not reflect the high usage. Secondly, the networked system was tested with other daw's and they did not exhibit this behavior and those few people with the VSTi issue tested those VSTi in other daw's successfully. Cakewalk needs to buckle down on this problem before having fancy new releases. Other than these specific scenarios, cpu usage within Sonar is totally fine as well as overall performance and usability.

I gotta say, what a beautiful GUI!!! I love the colors. I always thought Sonar looked ugly as hell. They have made something awesome with this one though!
Awesome new features, and they havent even announced everything!
Sonar users should be thrilled!!!!

New GUI and Pro Channel look awesome. I especially like the simplified toolbar -- old one's a pain to organize

Hmmm looks cool. I've been using Cakewalk since it was Cakewalk Pro Audio 7. Tried everything else along the way and always go back to Sonar. Just comfortable for me. Damn I guess that's been about 12-13 years or so. Granted I didn't get serious about not sucking until a few years ago so... :Spin:

UA 1176/Waves CLA 1176 are "proper" emulations.

So they claim, but do they? My fault, I should mentioned that and explained that was my question. But how many have used the real hardware and really know? So many say it's a true emulation and of course they dont know if its true. They just repeat it like a parrot. I mean no one can trust those pro's getting paid to say it sounds like the real thing. Everyone know today that the three words emulation, vintage and warm sell. Listen to this:
