Sonata Arctica

sonata is a good band. like most, I think ecliptica and silence are fantastic albums. great driving music. winter hearts guild is ok, and reckoning night pretty much sucks except for white pearl black ocean or whatever the fuck its called. thats a great, very well written song. UNIA on the other hand - wow that album sucks. what a horrible change of sound, lacking speed and melody.....it sounds like a different band.

The only two songs I enjoy from 'Reckoning Night' are "White Pearl, Black Oceans" (is that supposed to be some play-on words with the Black Pearl, the ship from PotC?) and "Don't Say a Word." I think the chorus to that song is really friggin sweet.

I agree with you about Unia though. I think they went too progressive and abandoned the idea of melody. I listened to a few songs off the new album on youtube and just quit giving it a chance. I really don't like it.

I've only heard the song Victoria's Secret. That seriously cracked me up...good song, though. Plan to get a load of power metal sometime, I think I'll definitely grab some Sonata Arctica.

On a mildly related note, is Kamelot any good at all? I've heard 2 songs, and neither impressed me, but it wasn't enough to judge.

Kamelot is my favorite power metal band. Which songs did you hear? Their sound has gotten progressively more complex, but I like every album since 'The Fourth Legacy.' I think you should definitely check them out again. Try these songs:

Center of the Universe
The Fourth Legacy
The Haunting
The Edge of Paradise
The Human Stain
Karma

These are only a few of their many awesome songs. I really think they would grow on you if you give them a chance. They're an awesome band.

I take it from your avatar that you're a Human Fortress fan. I think that if you like them you'll probably like Kamelot. They're not necessarily similar, but they each have a very individual sound.
