Thinking of reducing snare Volume in Overheads. I found some old shitty snare around the place and was thinking of filling it with cloth, foam, paper ect. Pretty Much Making it as Dead as possible and as quiet as possible. Then Micing it and replacing it.

What do you Guys think?

It's definitly a good idea, and something worth trying out. Mesh heads could work equally well though, but I've never tried them.

EDIT: Also, if you are going that route then just get decent set of triggers, instead of micing it.

yeah the mesh head thing is alrite n stuff, but all mesh heads arent as cheap as you would expect. And as a drummer myself i dont really like the feel of it.

I think i will Get the snare Trigger.

and Trigger >preamp > Drumagog is still ok?

I work in a Drum shop here in Australia.

Although, like everything, theres more than one type, brand, model ect ect

But for a 14" Mesh head, your lookin about $40 AUD

14" Remo Head Amabssador $28

Again.... yeh theres prob Cheaper stuff out there

Mesh heads also Do ware harder than a regular Mylar head, and more so a 2 Ply thicker Mylar Head Like a Emperor X or similar.

I'll Try both, But moreso for the feel of the drum, im leaning towards a head > Mesh

quieter snare = more cymbal/tom bleed to the mic vs. the snare = harder to sample with drumagog/aptrigga/whatever.

Unless you're just using a ddrum trigger.
