Sorry for yet ANOTHER equipment thread.

I let it be known a while ago I'm a newbie guitar player and upgraded my guitar to an Ibanez.

Now what'd be a good amp to pair it with? I looked at a few and realized I didn't know jack shit about it (even less than I knoew about guitars). I've been told solid state amps are good for power/meldeath, but thats all. Any suggestions about relatively inexpensive amps that'd be good enough to actually give me a real clue as to what I'm playing sounds like.

Thanks ahead of time.

go try a bunch of amps and decide for yourself because everybody can tell you what they have but you might not like the sound you get.

We'd need to know more about the sound you like, who's sound you like etc

Well, I don't mind used at all.

Budget is in the $200-400.

Best way to describe the sound I like is a mixture between old In Flames (Jester Race) and Falconer. Kind of an odd mix but... yeah.

I think a fairly decent amp for that kind of money would be a Line 6 Spider II combo. They range from $200-$500, and they sound amazing, excellent crunch. You can probably find one at Guitar Center, which is where I tried one for the first time. From the moment I plugged my guitar into a Line 6 amp...I fell in love, they're bloody amazing.

I have a Line 6 Flextone III, incredible machine. Their versatility is incredible, IMO, you can't go wrong with one. But they are expensive, Line 6 is generally excellent though.

I just got the Line 6 Spider II half stack for 800, and i'm more than happy with it.
I'm thinking about doing that since I won't be able to afford the HD-147 for quite some time.

Without a doubt, Line 6 makes some of the best amps I have ever used, you can't go wrong.
