good amps for recording/live situations

Hey, does anyone have any suggestions on amps to get that are pretty good all around (both for recording and live situations)? I play esp/ltd guitars with emg active pickups, if anyone has a similar guitar setup. price range isnt really a problem, but i dont want to spend a bunch of money on a name brand that doesn't make quality products. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I use EMGs on several of my guitars, and I play Jacksons, but that shouldn't matter much.

Some MESA products have a speaker simulated cab output designed for recording direct... but you're looking at least $1000... Sorry I'm not any more help...
