<span style="">"When the Crows Shadow Falls" is proof that Ares > yuo</span>

I've only got Beyond The Wandering Moon and love it dearly. I'm looking to pick up a couple more of their albums, so which releases by them should top me list?

Shadows of Old is the only other album you need, but Beyond the Wandering Moon is better.

Somehow over the years, I've ended up with "Ascension of Terror" in my collection. So I threw it on for the first time the other day, feeling very wary, thinking it was going to be horrible straight forward boring zero-atmosphere death metal. Surprise surprise, it was. :loco:

Actually, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be....but not a patch on their early days.

that's the prob with post-ASTNB. everyone compares the early stuff to the new stuff.

i guess the first three were so good, every fan, including me, wants them to release those albums again and again

The thing is, their post "atmospheric pagan" stuff is actually not bad and it seems to achieve what they're setting out to achieve, but although execution = top notch, the creativity factor = bland.

What the fuck, I've never even heard Shadows of Old. I think I meant ...And so the Night Became.

I am bumping because I want to know if Shadows of Old is worth purchasing considering I'm listening to ...And So the Night Became and remembering how fucking ace this band is.

it's not near as good as Dark Sorcery, ASTNB and BTWM, the trifecta of essential aeternus material.

it is the best of the post ASTNB material, though i really do enjoy Ascension of Terror. Dark Monument is average.

Hexaeon has one good song

Burning the SHroud might be worth picking up though. some live tracks, two tracks from a rare ep released between BTWM and ASTNB, 1 new song

Okay, what is it like? Still the same epicly evil, darkened black metal? or is it different than ASTNB?

Other than having an overwhelmingly gay cover, I'd say it's worth owning. It's a much different album from ...And So the Night Became and def. not as good, but is still listenable.

it's worth owning. it death metal though. it does have some epic passages, but the overall haunting atmosphere is gone. good bagpipe outro

I listened to Dark Sorcery the other day. It's not as good as I had remembered. Or at least, it's not even at the same level as AstNB or BtWM.

J - would you pick Dark Sorcery before anything from their 'regular' DM era?

Did you ever venture out to get the other two? Or at least, ..and so the Night Became.

Also, this thread has magical qualities. Each time it is bumped, it coincides with someone randomly listening to Aeternus. Can anyone verify?

I totally forgot to include them on my recent haul :erk:

My next haul will include ...and so the Night Became though

Fuck everything, I'm putting on Beyond the Wandering Moon right now!

'The Lair Of Anubis' did make an appearance on my randomised MP3 playlist at work the other day...
