Let's face it. The majority of videos suck and will be forgotten a few weeks after you see it. However, there are few that stand the test of time because they provide such a visual impact to the emotions you already have for the song. For example, how many of you remember Metallica's "Until It Sleeps" compared to "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam.

Thus, let's see how this goes. Name one and only ONE video that you feel stands the test of time. If you have a link (such as youtube), please post it as well.

My vote goes to a video that still brings a tear to my eye as I relate to it through the stories of my uncle. It's from one of the greatest songwriters ever:

Watch Me. :(

Glenn H.

Michael Jackson's Thriller

(god its hard to chose just one... I was going to post a band that rhymes with 'corn' that deals with a magic-bullet.... but then I remembered this one. And yeah.)

Man I haven't see that vid in years - god I love that song. The chorus still gets me choked up to this day.
Thanks for postign that Glenn.

Bryan,

I assume you missed the part where it says name *one* and only *one* that you consider a classic and made an impact on you. I like the videos you are listing, but you are simply turning this thread into an episode from Headbanger's Ball. I consider stuff like the AC/DC, Peppers, & Megadeth videos good, but not classics (IMHO).

"One" was a damn good choice though.

I'd guess I'd have to say Land of Confusion then... cuz waaay back when, that video had me hypnotized. I mean... it was wacky, hilarious, but AMAZING that somebody came up with so many caricatures of so many famous people... and then made puppets of all of them!

But I stand firm... all the videos I mentioned are amazing and impressive. Either in concept, or execution, or capturing a moment, or just being creative for creativity's sake.

There is NO SINGLE VIDEO worth mentioning.

Because there are SO MANY worth mentioning.

Favorite? Perhaps. But truly worthy of keeping in a vault for all time? So very many of them....

You have no idea how much I totally disagree with you. Are you telling me that "You Shook Me All Night Long" strikes an emotional chord or a even a technical "wow" with you on a visual level that sets it apart from the majority of all other videos?

Since Bryan isn't using it, I will: Tool - "Sober". That video simultaneously creeped me out and brought a tear to my eye, and, to this day, I couldn't tell you why, because I don't really know exactly what's going on. It's sort of like abstract art.

It's also one of the best songs ever.

Are we talking emotional videos? Because I'd have to take mine back then. I zeroed in on the "stands the test of time" part.

Good question. I say it depends on how your own personal criteria is used. Emotional impact ranks #1 with me, but it doesn't have to be in your top 10 list for your own "test of time" list.

Makes for interesting choices.

Laugh all you want... A-ha's 'Take On Me'... not really for emotional impact as it was just one hell of a visual masterpiece, and nothing compared to it.

The only *video* I can come up with that had a serious emotional impact on me is "Janie Got a Gun."

Well then you're fuckin MY criteria all up then! I'm WAAAY off now! Okay... emotional? Then it's gotta be One. That video is soooo damn metal. Just thrashing the shit outta yourself and your instrument... no audience, no crowd, no fans, no witnesses... just bashing it out for the sake of the metal. My band does this every weekend, and this video reminds me of why we do it. Just because. I mean, yeah, it's great to do that shit in front of an audience... but to haul our gear up and down three flights of stairs only to have our backs hurt at the end of the day with nothing to show for it? Well... it's AAAAALL worth it to me.

Especially when we tear peoples' heads off at shows!

Ozzy's Changes video a very very close second, cuz it's a beautiful song and it's such a perfectly captured moment in his career. On stage, with your son. Can't be a better moment in life.

Well with this video, it was quite early in the days of making music videos, with such little technology, very few special effects, and it's still AWESOME. It still puts a smile on my face, and I still throw the horns up.

That's an emotion to me.

Besides... that woman's hair should count for a technical "wow"!
