Speaking of *good* videos....

For emotional impact, of course, I'd have to go with Nightwish "Walking In the Air" from PPIV.

However, my favorite video is much newer (than some of the oldies being posted here). I like it because it IMHO captures the feeling of the song and is artistically pretty cool. It adds something to the song rather than detracting from the song. Evergrey's "I'm Sorry"

All About Eve - "Martha's Harbour"

When I first saw this video I was hooked. This song is just sooooo awesome and melancholic - and the video portrayed the lyrics and theme beautifully. By today's standard the video is kind of simple, but back then it was just brilliant, and since this is probably my favorite song of all time, this video is #1 on my list.

(unfortunately it's not up on youtube or whatever those sites are called, sorry)

Let's face it. The majority of videos suck and will be forgotten a few weeks after you see it. However, there are few that stand the test of time because they provide such a visual impact to the emotions you already have for the song. For example, how many of you remember Metallica's "Until It Sleeps" compared to "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam.

Thus, let's see how this goes. Name one and only ONE video that you feel stands the test of time. If you have a link (such as youtube), please post it as well.

My vote goes to a video that still brings a tear to my eye as I relate to it through the stories of my uncle. It's from one of the greatest songwriters ever:

Watch Me. :(

Glenn H.

Acutally, Until it Sleeps changed my life when i saw it in second grade and steered me away from rap...I owe alot to that video.

I thought that In Flames had a cool video for Cloud Connected...

Genesis - Land Of Confusion

Steve Vai - In My Dreams With you (with Devin Townsend)

Coldplay - The Scientist

Glenn that was an awesome video! Thank you! It gave me goosebumps! I wonder if Billy Joel wrote anything like that about the war in Iraq. I'm going to have to brush on my Billy Joel.

One was my first choice but an obvious one.
However, the pinacle of the music video thus far is by the one, the only...

Johnny Cash - Hurt

I hope the link works.

The song is haunting and the video gives me chills every time I see it. I must have watched it five times the day he died.
:notworthy
I agree completely! That would have been one of my choices as well. I love the original version as well, but the first time I saw Johnny cash's version, I was speechless, not to mention having chills and goosebumps throughout it.

I'm a bit younger than the majority here, but for me - one I'll never forget and that still to this day strikes a chord with me is Soul Asylum - Runaway Train
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xf4j0NKRfW0&search=Soul%20Asylum

I don't think I'll ever forget the end scene with the lady stealing the baby. I was real young when that came out, and it scared the hell out of me. In my mind the world and people were innocent, and that video was like a nightmare. I still find the song haunting and the chorus great - but that's cause I connected to the song.

Also:

Can anyone possibly help me with a different song and video? I believe its from the 80's - and I want to say it was Phil Collins or Genesis, but I can't be sure. I believe it was more a ballad type song, with one scene being of a green hill outside and the guy singing, and there also being a choir with white gowns singing in the video as well. I cannot for the love of me remember it though...:waah: Might be too vague a description, but I was so young...

The oldest video I can remember that had an emotional impact on me was Rush "Countdown"

Back when I was a kid, the Space Shuttle was a VERY big deal when it was launched. When I watch that video, even now, I still am in awe that people can achieve stuff like that when they work together.
