Platinum is $125
EX is $58

Now that I have shared that, which one is needed for Metal? Does EX have the essential ingredients or do I need Platinum?

Thanks.

EX works just fine for metal, get platinum if you want more versatility. You can do other things than metal with both of course, EX has some natural samples and a bunch of the overused SSD legacy gems like snare 10 kick 5 or whatever while platinum comes with all of the old stuff afaik and a ton of new good shit. Have a blast.

I'm thinking of getting either the Platinum Trigger or upgrading my EZX to SDX with the Metal Foundary add on, both are around the same price. Some opinions would be cool on which one the Sneapsters would prefer.

I am thinking that if I got SS Trigger, that would give me more options in terms of a varied palet of sounds rarther than just having toontrack sounds, however, I Like the idea of being able to use the raw sounds that would come with SDX, ie no post processing like in EZX and, correct me if i am wrong, most SSD products too. For my needs, both have advanatges and disadvantages for example, I prefer SSD sounds but I think the SDX crossgrade is better value. So many wonderful toys, so little in the way of time and money!

Having said all that, I think both are great deals to the hobbiests and bedroom warriors out there (like me), especally for those in the UK using the electronic delivery method :)

I love Audiodeluxe!!

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Appreciated. I didn't know exactly what was included from Platinum. I have read around and have a fairly good idea now. Lots of the "essentials", but a few of the tasty others not included to entice you towards Platinum.

Yeah, options. AFAIK Trigger doesn't include Cymbals, so keep that in mind. I have EzDrummer and Metal Machine, but I think I will get SSD over SDX. The fact that you can include your own samples with SSD is a great feature that TT doesn't(?) have. SSD also has the RAW Deluxe kits as I understand, not sure how many, so if you want unprocessed stuff it is there.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I really like MM, but I would like to be able to fatten up the kicks and snares a little. They cut through very well but I would like to be able to add some more body with other samples (not just EQ) and SSD seems to give that option by being able to layer different drums on top of each other in the software itself. The tweakability seems pretty great.

Do you think that if you had Platinum with all the 100 "kits" that you would be more satisfied (more options to get "that" tone you are after)? Or is it just the overall SSD drum sound is not for you?

Thanks for any more info.

I've got ssd4ex and ezd+mm and I prefer mm by a long shot.

+1. I have 3.5 platinum and Metal Machine, and when I upgraded my PC about 6 weeks ago, I didn't even re-install the Slate drums, and still haven't. I probably will at some time, but for me, Metal Machine just sounds perfect with about 98% less effort. Never could find a snare sound I cared for much in SSD...always had to use other samples for that.

If there is ever a big upgrade blowout from 3.5 to 4 I will probably do it and go ahead and install, but it's not worth $125.00 to me right now. That's no disrespect to Slate, as his stuff served me well, but it's just a statement of how well MM works for me.

I also have Trigger EX to use if I want to blend in some samples (either Slate's or my own) with MM.

Good luck to you!

I also have MM and like it alot, I think it is the best out of the metal expansions for Ex that I have ( also have metal heads and dfh).

( Noob opinion alert) What I like to do with MM is load multiple instances so that I can have kicks on one track and blend the snares, say the black beauty and A N other on seperate tracks then run off the audio to save CPU power. This only works, from the point of saving CPU, if each time you load up EZxMM that you choose the no drums option, then make your own custom kit across 8 or 9 tracks using each instance of EZx on a track for a drum peice or drum section, eg rack toms. I have noticed that if you leave the MM sound alone and don't process it too much it works better than over doing it with post processing or bad post processing that is.

I have the demo of Trigger EX and I like it alot, I think it's a great product. I know there are no cymbols with trigger but I could use the overheads from any of the EZx's that I have. I know everyone uses these sounds, but I don't care, they are great sounds and know one hears my stuff, it's just for my personal enjoyment.

Unfortunatly, I think I have ruled out any Slate products now as I would need a ilok (I am on an old PPC Mac too), I am not impressed with this iLok thingy and I think it's ashame becuause I really like Slate's products and I would buy them if it wasn't for the iLok. I understand softwear producers' rights to protect their work but as i am bedroom warrior, I think iLok is taking the piss, financially speaking, from my point of view. It's £33 gods damn it and it makes Trigger Platinum less of a bargin.

So my further question is, is it worth me getting the Metal Foundry upgrade too? I hear that internal effects in SDx are not as good as stock plug ins (I use Logic 8), which makes me think that with the raw sounds used for EZxMM in SDxMF.. time for me to start wetting my pants.

^ I don't know exactly what you mean about multiple instances but if you're trying to isolate elements, you just need to route inside the toontrack mixer each mic to an output channel, and in your daw no route every output channel of the vst to a track. Then if you wanna save CPU you just need to print the result. Sorry if you we're talking about something else

Hey cheers man, you are talking about the same thing, ie, isolation.

I knew this but i was thinking that I would have more control with mutiple instances. I tried what you suggested and it was the same outcome as what I was trying to do but with better CPU use. The idea is to have EZx MM and EZx Metalheads running at the same time to mix and match, and re enforce etc... anyways... we digress from the OP lol. I think I may get SDx and Metal Foundry rarther that SSD Trigger Platinum, don't think I can go wrong for $126 but ... hmm ... Drumagog 5...

Thanks again... have a virtual beer on me!!
