Opeth is my favorite band you guys, first 5 albums are just pieces of art.

yeah, I think a lot of us rated the albums on "Opeth standards" as opposed to rating them with all other bands/music in mind. for instance if Deliverance was released by another band I'd be very impressed....

true...like the last Dying Fetus album, "Stop at Nothing" was pretty disappointing for Dying Fetus. But if a new death metal band came out with the exact same album, I would have been an instant fan.

Ghost Reveries - 4.9 Stars

SL, BWP, Damn, And GR are all solid albums, all the way through.

The other four are good albums, but "suffer" from having a few really killer classic opeth songs and then others on the album that just don't match up.

Deliverance has the "worst" production...not that it's bad sounding or muddy, it's just too clean, thin, dry, digital, whatever you want to call it...production that was more suited to Damnation and not a regular Opeth album. Deliverance also is an album with a few classic songs and a few "Opeth in cruise control" songs.

With Ghost Reveries, I feel they have finally nailed the perfect production that suits the band.

Don't you think that is a shallow way to look at things? I mean crap is crap. You either like it or you don't. It's bad for one band to put out crap, but if another band does it, than it's great? That doesn't make sense to me.

Just because a band releases an album that isn't up to par with their other work doesn't mean it's a bad album. And judging by your ratings it looks like you're comparing them to albums outside Opeth because you didn't give any of yours a 5.

I woudln't say shallow, as such. Being a fan of a certain band, it's very easy to judge how good or bad an album is by comparing it to previous works. St Anger is one example. Whilst I dont like it that much, I believe that if another band had made that album, I might just like it a bit. But the fact that Metallica - after releasing awesome albums like AJFA and Master of Puppets - simplified their music so horribly makes it extremely hard to accept the album.

Some people here call Deliverance Opeth's weakest album, but i'm sure many would still say that it's a shitload better than a lot of other music out there.
