Starting with Vader

[Hammer of Might]

one of several bands I've been meaning to check out for a long time, I don't download heavily so what album should I spend money on first, to give me the best piece of their catalogue?

This is tough. All their releases are great in their own right. If you ask me, start with Revalations, The Beast, Black to the Blind, The Ultimate Incantation, The Darkest Age, Litany. In that order.

I started with litany, and that was pretty good, though i dont have any others yet............

If you ask me, De Profundis is way better than Litany. The Beast isnt necessarily bad, but they've done so much better.

Revelations and The Ultimate Incantation are my favorite Vader albums.

I bought Revalations about a month ago and really dig it, its the only Vader CD I own though.

De Profundis, Sothis and The Ultimate Incantation are all mandatory. Any of those three will do, it's difficult to choose between them.

De Profundis should be picked up first; then The Ultimate Incantation, and Sothis.

All are great but start with "The Beast". Vader are the kings of death metal.
Once you've bought that, buy the new Akercocke album, as it's a fucking masterpiece!
